Mezzotint rocking and plate preparation. I'm definitely getting some use out of that loupe as well.

I love the simple repetition of printmaking. Rocking out a mezzotint plate. Grinding a stone. Sponging a stone. Cleaning the edges of rolled out ink. The repetitive nature of it is meditative and cathartic at times and infuriating at others. On either end of the spectrum (and in the middle for good measure) the physicality is rewarding.

I made this mezzotint rocker sharpening jig yesterday. It consisted of buying a wood handle, cutting it to size, drilling holes, sanding it and staining it. My last step was actually sharpening the rocker.

Use a jig like this is by far the quickest way to get those sharp teeth.

However I will say that actually rocking out the mezzotint plate is an exercise in patience.
