hey! about the headcanon/meta thingy what about something with vera (claythorne) as a teacher? i've always been curious as to her life before the island :D
Hey thanks for this! :)
So according to the adaptation she is a games mistress at a girls’ school. Given the setting in the 1930s, I reckon she probably taught at some really fancy boarding school, maybe starting work there as a lesser member of staff a few years earlier and somehow working her way up to the games mistress. How she got there, of course, may be a rather controversial affair. I think it’s no secret that Vera was a renowned flirt, but her appearance of shyness and moral uprightness in front of those she wished to ensnare was far more beguiling than any outward shows of affection could have been.
She had a brilliant mind, far more than any other member of staff, so she liked to watch people and think how to ensnare them. Surely plagued by some form of guilt for Cyril’s death, or at least anger over Hugo’s subsequent rejection of her and ultimate failure of her plan, she schemed as to how to better herself and needed distractions.. And like any great mind, she must have got bored, and found whatever things she could to occupy herself. If that involved sleeping with every young male member of staff, so be it. Her students looked up to her, and she enjoyed their adoration, not to mention the attention from her admirers. She could never forget Hugo, but tried her very best to replace him with nameless colleagues, and spent most of her free time smoking and trying to forget.
If anything, her time in her school just encouraged her vindictive side, showing her just how superior she was to everyone else and wanting desperately to find someone on the same level. Perhaps that was what intrigued her about Philip Lombard; he was like her and she enjoyed feeling on a par with someone else.
