7 Must-Sees at the Entrepreneurship Summit
Since 2012, the Entrepreneurship Summit has attracted hundreds of W&L students and alumni to network and discuss living in an entrepreneurial world. This year’s event will be September 29 and 30, filled to the brim with events and speakers. With so much to do this weekend, here are a few must-sees at this year’s event.
1. Student Pitch Competition
Saturday (9/30), 8:45 a.m., Stackhouse Theater
Find out the ways that current W&L students will disrupt the world of entrepreneurship at the Student Pitch Competition. With eight pitches selected to present out of over 20 applicants, this session will put W&L’s entrepreneurial talent at the forefront. These up-and-coming entrepreneurs will have two minutes to show The Summit what they’re made of, competing for cash prizes and pride.
2. Keynote: Ben Johns ‘78, SCOUT Bags
Friday (9/29), 11:15 a.m., Stackhouse Theater
With over 30 years of experience, W&L alum Ben Johns will deliver one of two keynote addresses at this year’s Summit. Johns is the co-founder and CEO of SCOUT Bags, along with his wife Deb, who came up with the idea after a trip to Italy. If you want to learn more about the ins and outs of making it in the world of tote bags, then be sure to drop by.
3. Panel: From Liberal Arts Major to Successful Entrepreneur
Saturday, 1:15-2:15 p.m., Huntley 235
The Entrepreneurship Summit is open to students from all majors, and this session is the perfect opportunity to learn about the entrepreneurial potential that all students have by coming out of W&L. A group of History, Politics and Journalism majors will talk about how they went from classes on the Colonnade to starting their own companies.
Saturday, 2:30-4:45 p.m., Hopkins House
Do you have an idea for a business? This session will give you a chance to bounce that idea off a group of students and alumni who want to see your ideas become a reality. W&L alum and Facebook Program Manager Christian Martine '14 will be just one of a handful of alumni who help you think through your big ideas.

5. Interviews for 2018 Jobs and Internships
Saturday, 4-6 p.m., Career Development, check out LexLink for more info
Along with insight and knowledge, the W&L alumni returning to Lex are looking for new talent to bring under their wing. These alumni are ready to interview students looking for positions in marketing, engineering, business development, and more. If you’re looking for the right gig to get a taste of the entrepreneurial world, then be sure to sign up for an interview!
6. Panel: Attracting, Selecting, Developing, and Retaining an "A" Team
Friday: 2:30-3:25 p.m., Stackhouse Theater
Drop by in-between your classes to get a taste for what it takes to put together the right group to take your venture to the next level. A panel of English, History and Business majors will discuss what they’ve learned in surrounding themselves with the right people to help them succeed as entrepreneurs and professionals.
7. Breakfast, Lunch and Networking
Drop-in breakfast: Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m., Commons Living Room
Lunch: Friday and Saturday, 12 p.m., The Marketplace
Networking: all weekend long!
Over 100 alumni across 15+ departments will return to Lex for the Entrepreneurship Summit, eager to meet the bright students who are coming out of W&L. In addition to meals during the weekend, these accomplished alumni will be all over campus this whole weekend, so don’t be afraid to shake some hands and have some meaningful conversations!
