#Repost @carladawnbehrlenyc ・・・ #throwbackthursday to my very first #comiccon maybe in NJ or Philadelphia - way, way back in the day. I think I was about 11 or 12 when I made this #costume for my sister. It's the First iteration I did of #redsonja for #FrankThorne who is a dear friend of ours to this day. This costume was made of sheet aluminum that was cut, hammered hand sewn into armor and hand-painted to give it that #comicbook #dimensionality - I even made the #gloves and #boot covers by hand! Cape was hand dyed and distressed - probably by dragging it thru the yard & rose bushes! I don't remember what I did to keep those shoulder plates upright and intact - since they were basically the same junky sheet #aluminum. The #costume did not last too long - a couple of appearances maybe. Red Sonja got so popular so quickly that I had to make a more permanent (stainless steel) one really quickly afterwards. My favorite #memories of these really early comic cons are all the amazing people I got to meet! Like #StanLee #RoyThomas #IsaacAsimov - the amazing artist #BarryWindsorSmith and my childhood #idol #WilliamWareThiess the brilliant #costumedesigner of the #original #startrek series !!! BTW these early cons were where I first experienced the #fetishscene since the costume competitions were the only #safespace to be #out and about with it back then. So I guess you could say #WorldDomination started here too! . . . . . #cosplay #poolside #comicbooknerd
