who attempt to walk below
while the djidi djidi play at tormenting the tyrants
as delightful irritations

~ 16 October 2018 ~
I had a semi productive day today? I finished off the script files I needed for a data analysis assignment (after spending an hour trying to find the error only to notice after an hour that I was missing a comma...), went through and edited my planner and started on my bobbin lace project for my archaeology class.
~ Archaeology ~
Currently I’ve only got one assignment left for this class (semester 2 ends in two weeks!). We are required to make an artefact as close to the original methods as possible, which is great fun! I’m reconstructing 16th century Venetian bobbin lace (inspiration taken from the Batavia, a ship that wrecked off the West Australian coast where lace fragments were found relatively intact for a textile). As you can see, I’ve drafted out some patterns for my bobbins as I will be starting to carve them out of some wood tomorrow. I’ve also bought some crochet thread (used for lace making) that was made by hand locally, which is pretty cool. so far everything is going great, but I keep wondering how far I should take it with the whole making it myself situation? If I make it all from scratch I’ll end up growing trees and cotton and having to forge all kinds of metal if I really get into it? I guess I’ll just have to see how much I have time to do.
~ Biology ~
Not too many updates here, just prepping and studying for the upcoming exam in November and catching up on any missed lectures. I’ve got a couple more quizzes to go and a couple of papers to write and then pre-exam assessments are done!
~ Molecular Biology of the Cell ~
Not much to report here either, just exam prep for this class as well and that is about it at the moment! I’ve done all of the assessments for this class (apart from the exam) so the schedule for this class is pretty quiet at the moment.
~ Science, Society and Data Analysis ~
Just about to start working on the last assignment for this class (and then I’m finished as there is no exam!!) which is just analysing more data and making up the script files to conduct appropriate tests and make appropriate plots etc.
~ Willie wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys) update ~
They left the nest!!! They left yesterday afternoon and have been hanging around since then, but I’m not sure how much longer they’ll be around the area. They seem to still fly and feed as a pair, with both parents watching closely and fending off any other birds (especially magpies (Cracticus tibicen) that like to hang around!). I noticed later this afternoon that the female has been sitting on the nest again and exhibiting similar behavior as when she was about to lay her first egg, so who knows, we might be getting another clutch? Apparently willie wagtails are able to lay multiple clutches of eggs up until January, it will be interesting to see how many they lay between now and then...
Just realized my videos didn't send properly. #happySunday. #WillieWagtails #bestestBirds.
