when the koolbardi swoop from the trees in spring
they inspire a kind of terror in the people
who attempt to walk below
while the djidi djidi play at tormenting the tyrants
as delightful irritations

四腳蛇 sì kha zuâ, literally "four legged snake" (潮州話/Diôziu'uē/Teochew language) Djidong (Noongar language) I just had a big feed and now I feel like this little guy that I spotted earlier today in the front yard.
100 Day Challenge to myself Days 23, 24 & 25 (I'm really bad at this but I am trying!) Teochew word of the day 本書 bung2 ze1: book 書格 ze1 gêh4: bookshelf 語言 ghu2 ngang5: Language. I had particular trouble pronouncing this one in the standard way, made it sound like a bad opera recording. 😂 In my family, for some reason, it was taught to me as nge2 ngam5, perhaps a Viet influence, I'm not sure. I love books. I love collecting them. Especially anything to do language and language learning. I'm particularly proud of my small but growing collection on Noongar culture and language. I hope to double it at some point this year. I'm also desperate to expand my Teochew language book collection. But I have no idea where to start. People, Teochew nang themselves, keep telling me the old line that Teochew is an oral language not a written one. But if Nyoongar, which was an oral language for thousands of years and has a few thousand users at best, has a body of literature; then I can't see Teochew which has millions of people not having one too. @jadearoma Any suggestions on Teochew books to start out with. I'll read kids books, I don't care!
