biography (tw: domestic violence, addiction).
willow was born into a cozy little life. her parents were dairy farmers, and active members in a local church. willow remembers days in the kitchen with her father, helping him bake for community bake sales, helping her mother with the cows, it was as picturesque an upbringing as one could hope for. she had an easy time making friends in school and around town, she was supported in her dreams to continue in her parents' footsteps and become a farmer herself, she took up pottery and became interested in art, she graduated a perfectly average student, and that was perfectly fine with her.
college introduced her to a whole new world. and one of the people in that world was ethan - an alpha environmental science major just like her, originally from miami. he too was interested in farming, but not as much as he was interested in willow herself. the two fell in love over long study sessions, late-night campus walks, and the occasional dorm party. she happily took him home for the holidays to introduce him to her family, and by the time the two graduated they were happily engaged and ready to start a perfect life together.
it took them five years after getting married, but the two alphas were blessed with a beautiful boy - isaac. named for the immediate joy and laughter he brought into their lives. isaac became the most important thing in her whole life. willow spent countless nights rocking their newborn to sleep, imagining the life ahead of her - happy days raising her son the exact same way her parents raised her. her son would watch her and ethan live out a love story the same way she watched her parents, they'd love him and support him as he grew into an adult. it'd be perfect.
but life is never really perfect, is it? things rarely ever go according to plan. and unfortunately for willow, the perfect life they planned on living crumbled away. a strange distance began growing between her and ethan; she knew he was hiding something, she just didn't know what. not until she found the stash of empty bottles in the barn loft. that night, after putting isaac to bed, willow waited for ethan to return from helping another farm across town so they could talk. it was supposed to be a simple confrontation, something coming from a place of love. but what followed was a fight unlike anything they'd ever done before - a fight that ended with ethan putting his hands on her.
it became a regular thing. for years, willow tried to make excuses, believing that if she could only get through to ethan things could go back to normal. but you can't help people who don't want to be helped, and her efforts only seemed to fuel his rage towards her. ashamed, willow kept the abuse from everyone around her, but her father started seeing through the cracks and finally stepped in. willow and isaac returned to her childhood home. the divorce papers came soon after. but even after signing them and finalizing the divorce, willow felt horrible. not everyone in town knew what had happened, which meant people felt comfortable casting judgement. as much as she loved her town, she no longer felt peace here.
it was her mother who came up with a solution. her aunt was moving to be closer to her own kids, leaving behind a gorgeous little farm in a small town out in oregon. rosemary was certain her sister would sell the place to willow - and sell it she did. without telling anyone beyond her mother and father, willow packed her and isaac's things and left in the middle of the night, never to return.
willow wasn't sure what to make of juniper bay at first. everyone seemed friendly, but years of abuse at the hands of someone she thought she knew left her paranoid of others. but as the days stretched into weeks, and then into months, she began to relax. isaac blossomed in town, getting along with his new schoolmates and making friends without any problem. willow wouldn't say she's got friends, per se, but she's starting to get out there more. she's got a stand at the farmer's market every saturday morning, and volunteers nearly every day at bette's house, helping others in situations like her own. it's a step in the right direction, she thinks - the beginning in her efforts to get over the past eight years of her life and finally start anew.
