Fact: nobody has yet confessed to designing the Hunchwolf. It is hoped nobody will. Maybe it was just some kind of freak accident.

I mean, the most jarring thing here is how it kind of looks like a Zeus with those shoulders.

A revelation rather than an ask, apologies if unwelcome. Also a bit long.

I just realized the Wimber Tolf would have a distinct advantage over the standard Madcat. In the same way a Marauder can hide behind things and plink with its ac/5 to expose less of itself to enemy fire, a Wimber Tolf could do with its shoulder lasers.

Now it could do the same with the lrms on the madcat, but those boxes are a decent target, and ammo explosions aren't fun (in your mech. Absolutely hilarious when it happens to someone else.). Shoot off a laser you lose a laser, shoot an lrm rack you might take out the whole cockpit (CASE notwithstanding).

Hide behind a hill, berm, or other cover and fire with lasers, and use indirect fire with the lrms on the arms, which aren't exposed to fire until they're in the air. Wimber Tolf is a good design!

That could be one advantage, if you really need to fire from cover- not the first choice of many a MechWarrior if they can press the advance instead. But the real reason for the configuration is not to hunker down and fire off the shoulder mounts, but rather because the arm placement of the LRM pods makes them perfect for the glorious battlefield sport of missile boxing. (Until the reconfiguration, you see, the Timber Wolf did not qualify, for the same reason the poor Stalker was left out- boxers were required to possess at least one missile arm.)
