I know dysfunctional perspective was discontinued but I have a theory/headcanon scene-- Since Greg is grandpa's favourite (and in this au we know what happens with Heffleys is Generational trauma meaning Frank was also abused by Grandpa Heffley (which is confirmed), but my headcanon is greg is still grandpa's favourite and he doesn't show the same behaviour to his grandkids like the one he did to frank.
So, while they were at grandpa's place at night Greg sneaked out of the room to find the family album (Cause he in a way had a nightmare Abt the generational thing discussed as Joe's house and wanted answers and he could get them while grandpa was asleep). I basically think Greg would discover it further by seeing the album at grandpa's house and putting the generational trauma thing together.
