Jan Garbarek, 'Dis' LP (ECM Records)
Thursday, May 27, 2021, 7:02pm (full listen)
I saw this one pop up on ECM's Instagram account recently, spreading news of its imminent reissue, and it looked fascinating, and also seemed like it might not be hard to find on LP (I was right on this count and found this not-mint copy for a decent price the other day). It is one of the stranger ECM titles I've heard recently, but not in a in wild, far-out kind of way; it's JG and Ralph Towner accompanied by a brass ensemble and a wind harp in certain areas. The brass ensemble parts are more prevalent on side two, and are generally less compelling than the other parts, which feature the two main players in tandem with the Bertoia-esque wind harp, creating some, plaintive, at times soundtrack-ish soundworlds and are unlike anything I've heard on the label - or from JG - ever before.

The WIND HARP "Spingsongs" (1972).
Rare and great recording of gorgeous droning microtonal soundscapes produced by a giant wind-activated sound sculpture (an aeolian harp). The sculpture itself was designed and built by Ward McCain on a hilltop in Chelsea Vermont in the early 70s.
Wind harp recorded on a beach in Pembrokeshire, Wales.
