15 Franchise Stats For 2014

Hi! It's our pleasure to share with you this really great article from Buxton Magazine (September 2014), that our Institutional Partners at Americas Franchising Group shared on wind2share:

Take a peek at these stats below to help inform your franchising decisions this year:

- Franchises are expected to add nearly 200,000 new jobs in 2014.

- Franchising accounts for roughly 10% of new U.S. jobs.

- The pace of employment gains created by franchises will continue to

outpace total private sector employment growth by 0.3%.

- The number of franchise businesses in 2014 is expected to rise by 12,915 in 2014, bringing total establishments to 770,368.

- The 2014 establishment growth rate is expected to rise 1.7% from 1.4% in 2013.

- The output of franchise establishment, in terms of dollar revenue, is expected to increase 4.7% in 2014 – up from the 4.3% recorded in 2013.

- Franchise businesses are forecasted to represent 4.5% of U.S. GDP or $493 billion in 2014 – up from 3.5% of U.S. GDP or $472 billion in 2013.

- Within the franchising sector, business services, commercial and residential services, and quick service restaurants are expected to be the biggest drivers of job creation in 2014.

- Business services has the fastest growth rate and is expected to add 35,109 franchise jobs in 2014, while quick service restaurants, the largest sector in franchising, is expected to generate 75,596 new jobs.

- Restaurants are the largest franchisors, with roughly 155,571 quick service franchise restaurants and 36,981 full-service franchise establishments in operation in 2014.

- Multi-unit franchise operators control 55% of all franchised units in the U.S.

- At 64%, West Virginia has the highest concentration of multi-unit franchisees. All other states with high concentrations of multi-unit franchisees are southern states including: Arkansas, Mississippi, Kentucky and Alabama with 62% each.

- The average multi-unit franchisee owns 5 franchised locations, up from about 3.5 in 2007.

- The industries with the highest concentration of multi-unit franchisees are food.

Traveling abroad? This tips will keep you safe at an airport!

We asked Javier Nieto, Director of Enkelson Security- a participating institution on wind2share who offers security and risk management services in Latin America- to share his expertise with us during this traveling season about how to be safe at an airport when traveling abroad. 

"If you do not want to live an extreme experience to get to the airport, you should follow these tips, which are perfectly suited for most airports in the marketplace" said Javier to us. Here are his tips: 

1 -. Under no circumstances let alone your suitcase. If you take it with you to the health. Do not lose eye contact with the suitcase. Other incidents that are common in an airport, is that the hand luggage disappears while you are buying a coffee or gifts to take. Unfortunately at airports there are characters who engage in such actions, so should never be placed on a counter in a shop or a cafe table your hand luggage, because as he heads to the cashier to pay, your luggage can be stolen.

2.-SCAM ALERT! Avoid changing money at the airport. For several years there are people who sneak into the airport and engaged in contact to offer travelers dollars. Usually addressed while packing luggage. The reality is that these transactions may be scams, as they have seen many cases where counterfeit dollars delivered. This may also bring legal problems if you then try to Interpol purchase these tickets elsewhere. Moreover, such operations are not legally permitted, so doing so would be a law violation.

3. - Divide and Conquer! Take part of your documentation and money in a small purse you carry around. Save the other part on a site that can not be easily located on your baggage.  Do the same as soon as you arrive to the Hotel.  4.-Valuables: If you don't need it, don't bring it Do Not "expose" your jewelry or watch value abroad. Ideally, leave only an economic watch or just don't use one at all.  5.-Finding Information with the right people  Request information only to authorized representatives of the airlines or charge your phone before arrival. This will facilitate communication to know your arrival with the figures of private security.
