Imo the appeal of Windscream isn’t “I can fix him”
It’s Windblade trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with Starscream.
Bonus if Starscream is trying to make Windblade worse.

As much as I love seeing Elita show up in more and more pieces of media recently I'm starting to get a dreadful feeling that it was done less out of a genuine desire to bring back and explore a previously forgotten character and more because Hasbro just wanted to replace Windblade with a character from the Sunbow cartoon for maximum geewun
.
realizing why i fuckjinhg hate windscream so much is bc it’s literally the “born sexy yesterday” trope
this doesnt really help the fact that wikis describe her personality as only “naieve” like ewewewew is that not icky to any of yall??
which going more into wb here, they really just. didnt give her ANY personality in her whole ass comic debut-run. it’s really disappointing that she was hyped up to be the psychic swordsman created by beloved fans only to be starcscreams lil submissive omega that doesnt know anything and needs an evil man to tell her everything and that she also needs to fix him
honestly im so glad both rid and cyberverse barely had her interact with starscream (which makes it lowkey funny bc without him, both those shows actually gave her character depth)

i need to clarify that i don't hate windblade at all. aside from the orientalist design, she's greatly written in idw and cv. i just really hate her in a character design standpoint. i love pretty and sexy robots. i don't care if anyone designs arcee to be pretty or sexy, what i care about is maintaining her robot features. transformers has a problem with barely giving female characters diverse body types, but at least they look like transformers! and i fully endorse sexier transformers designs. as a society, we need bigger hips, bigger chasis, bigger afts. make old man ratchet redesigns more impregnantable in 2026.
and that's my problem with windblade. if you compare her design to other female transformers, she would stand out for looking less cybertronian than them. she's "too pretty", as in she doesn't look robotic enough. lowtiergodkirkgenuinely, when i first saw her in idw, i questioned if she was a transformer. no other camien gave me this train of thought, just her. the designs that don't look cybertronian at least looked alien. she doesn't. she looks like a man-made android that doesn't fit in with the rest of cybertron and was sent to live among them. arcee, chromia, elita, moonracer, flamewar, and pretty much everyone else are incredibly pretty, but they look cybertronian. i think the only other female design that made me question the same thing was animated!elita-1 and its because of that damn ponytail.
the one design i can think of where she looks robotic is her first appearance in rid2015. she's still caked in orientalism, but everything else about her barely looks organic. and i really don't like that the fandom dials the orientalisn even further for fanart or redesigns out of spite against fans who hate her design or lack of sensitivity.

Ok so, I've been brewing a bit and looking at some of the confessions here just out of boredom, and windscream confessions caught my attention
And omg, I'm sorry, I may be comming off as rude, but not like some of the confessions had the decency to be nice about it either, but a good majority (not ALL!! Let me emphasize on that) lean way too heavily on gay stereotypes. And I mean to say, to everyone who says "Starscream is gay"
He could be! But that's left for viewers to interpret, otherwise he is neither gay or straight.
I'm not even a diehard WindScream shipper, my OTP is StarBee, but it bugs me how many people (not just with windscream, just any straight ship) just can't fathom Starscream as a straight guy. I don't either, but it's never confirmed, he's just a diva sorta feminine like guy and somehow that absolves him from being in a f/m ship and making it homophobic
Hell, it's also sometimes biphobic, and as someone who's bi, it kinda pisses me off a little.
Not only does the arguments against any straight ships with Starscream come out as bi erasure, it is also slightly homophobic in itself bc he's just casually the stereotype of being gay.
Not just that, we don't actively see him in a relationship in majority of his time in any continuity (maybe sometimes implied, but never outright said. Unless I'm missing one), he could very well be AroAce for all that's worth!!
Anyhow, my general opinion is, leave people be. Starscream is neither gay of straight, and if he's confirmed to be gay in any continuity, then the rule only applies to THAT continuity and not on the others. Which is something some people also seem to struggle to do, separate the different continuities.
Ship who you wanna ship, let people be in peace with their ships, and have some fun for fucks sake. Someone enjoying WindScream won't make your own ship any less valid, and vise versa. These are all just dolls for us to have fun with, the best part about TF as a whole is that it leaves so much open room for you to enjoy any ship!! Block and move on if you don't like it!!
Though also, yeah, I can't be too mad at confessions here since it's a place for people, like me, to vent out their frustrations. But what bothers me is that I often see the arguments used in these confessions outside this place and harassing other fans, which is my big issue.
Also also, they state it as fact that Starscream is gay, which isn't true and just spreads misinformation
.
I take issue with people criticizing Windblade by calling her an example of the white savior trope because she was an outsider to Cybertron and became a hero and leader, having perspective others didn't etc. not only because I think Windblade is generally well-written and the fandom seems to have zero grace for her but ALL the grace for someone like Starscream who treated her like crap all the time, but also because she's obviously a Japanese-coded character. I think we should probably not be using a fraught term like the white savior trope, a trope about white people teaching "savage" people of color, in an instance like this (I am Asian).
.
"windscream sux bc windblade is a lesbian" okay then why does windscream have more fics than windstream and chromblade combined. all talk no walk
.
"Windscream gets so much hate-" Yeah, 'cause it's an objectively boring ship and you can go to any bookstore and read the exact same plot in any dime a dozen romance novel. Windscream is just typical heteronormative "she can fix him" nonsense that's completely oversaturated in media. There's absolutely nothing Windblade and Starscream would get from being in a relationship with each other that they can't get from someone else. Ergo, it's boring.
Even worse is the snobbish insistence I see all the time from het shippers that they're canon. They are not and have never been canon. The hypocrisy is disgusting because mlm or wlw shippers get laughed out of a room for doing the exact same thing. Yes, Windblade and Starscream came to an understanding at the end of IDW, but there's nothing to suggest they were romantically involved or even remotely interested in each other that way. Hell, Windblade doesn't have a single thing to say about Starscream's death, which she absolutely would if the implication was that she liked him.
Obviously ship whatever you want but don't throw a fit just because people don't like the most basic and overdone trope in existence.
