Art & Hue presents Supermodels, stylish pop art illustrations of iconic cover girls, including the unique Cindy Crawford. There isn’t a camera, or wind machine, that didn’t love Cindy – her bracing athleticism was a refreshing healthy antidote to previous notions of femininity. Cindy is one of the original “big five” fashion models who were photographed on the streets of New York by the visionary photographer Peter Lindbergh. That 1989 image became the cover of the January 1990 issue of British Vogue and heralded the birth of the supermodel. The five models on the iconic cover were seen by George Michael who asked them to appear in the video for “Freedom 90” and introduced supermodels to MTV audiences globally. She may be known by many for her Amazonian figure and big hair but Cindy’s shoots displayed her versatility – from masculine androgyny to Hollywood glamour, Cindy produced many an impactful image such as shaving K.D. Lang on the cover of Vanity Fair. The all-American model has appeared in, and on, many magazines, in music videos, and commercials, as well as hosting her own MTV show. Modelling runs in the family with both Cindy’s children, Kaia Gerber & Presley Gerber, hitting the catwalks and magazines. Still modelling 30 years on from that famous cover, Cindy has recently walked for Versace alongside Naomi & Claudia, and continues to appear in and on magazines.
