WINDOWS 8: VERSIONS AND PRICES

Windows 8 is currently being offered in three versions:

Windows 8 RT:This version is meant for tablet devices and device running on ARM processors. This version is not openly available in market and come loaded on the tablet devices. That means, if you are using Intel or AMD processors, this version is not meant for you.

Windows 8: This version is the basic version of Windows 8 and lack encryption technology and Windows to-go-to, a feature that enables you to connect to your PC when you’re on the go with Remote Desktop Connection. This version also lacks domain join feature which enables you to connect to your corporate network. Currently, Microsoft has not declared any pricing for this version.

Windows 8 Pro:This version is currently being offered by Microsoft to download for a special price @ $39.99 (approx Rs.2,000). You will be able to download the setup from Microsoft’s website. However, if you wish to get a DVD shipped from Microsoft, it is costing $69.99 (approx Rs.3,650). It’s better to download the software and burn it on a DVD. Please note that this is a very special launch price being offered by Microsoft for limited period. The price is applicable till January 31, 2013 post which the price may go upto $200 (approx Rs.11,000).

If you have purchased a PC you can pay Rs 699 to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro.

Prior to OS installation; please ensure that your computer meets the following minimum specifications required for Windows 8 setup. Windows 8 works on the same hardware that powers Windows 7:

         Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster

         RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
