In the shadows of the moon, you can see rabbits. According to legend, rabbits live on the moon. When I was young I've heard that there was a man on the moon, or the moon was made out of cheese. These are the more American tales of what exists up there. I also heard about the rabbits who live on the moon and Chang'e from reading East Asian myths due to curiosity about my heritage. So I wanted to pay homage to those myths with this prompt. I was also inspired by the Mid Autumn Festival which was around the time I painted this This was what I came up with for the prompt of shadow. This is the second to last picture I have left over from this year's "failed" inktober. The next one isn't even finished as I continue to struggle with deciding color composition. (and so much homework at the current time) I use air quotes with failed because, despite not finishing, I still improved in my art. Before this inktober, I was getting back into the habit of not making any completed pieces. I was mostly sketching and doing studies (which was helpful for filling up a sketchbook). And while I value those things and continue to do them, I also find it important to actually make a finish composition. Recently, I also do a lot of sketching, but this time it's because I am trying to iterate more on ideas to get a more solid base. I am also working on pieces that will be finished. I finished the sketchbook 🎉🎊 The first picture is of my new sketchbook Im working on that Ive decorated with stickers from @stickiiclub I actually used this sketchbook previously in the fall 2016 for an art class, but abandoned it for a bit. (Minus a day or 2 in August 2018) A similar situation happened with the sketchbook I just finished (the second photo). I started it in beginning of high school probably 2012 or 2013. But never dated those, picked it up again for a little in 2016 and 2017. But still didnt use much during those times. Half of the sketchbook is literally from 2018 and a quarter is from August 22 to November 7 2018. So this sketchbook has been in and out of my life for 5 or 6 years. I also included the sketch where I restarted in this time in Novemeber. Its definitely a concept Im currently working on, so in the future can see final work I tend to abandon sketchbooks halfway through, but I want to use everything as its a waste to not. So I will go back to old sketchbooks and finish them up. I even marked the number of pages in all of my sketchbooks and paper pads to motivate me to keep going. Prompts: Fallen and Red Im so close to finishing another sketchbook! This also happened last inktober lol So this has both yesterday and the day before's prompts. I wanted to draw a wet leaf and thought why not make it cohesive with the other prompt. I thought it would be super neat to have a greyscale image with a pop of red. Prompt: Rain I really like how happy she looks, but rain is such a pain to draw lol. I now understand why people usually don't draw people in the rain. I rather like how it turned out. I had fun figuring out the pose cause I got to spin around to figure out how bodies work when on one leg. So, today's is inspired a by Singing in the Rain. All of my initial ideas were rather depressing, but then a fallen umbrella turned into dancing in the rain. Tom Holland's lip sync reminded me that Singing in the Rain had a happy rain scene, so yay. I really wanted to make a happy rain scene. Materials: - only copic multiliners (so it took so long, the rain alone took 2 hours lol. Stray cats are both cute and kinda sad. Especially if they used to be pets. I often saw these two by the apartment I stayed last summer. I was told by taxi driver that the reason there are so many cats in the area becuase the neighborhood mostly had older people with cats. On a more positive note: I really like playing with sharp lines and breaking the boxes. I find it really fun to create sharp boxes and then have objects break that box I realized something about the paints Im trying to use up, they are more similar to gouache than my other paints. Maybe I never tried my other paints that way, but that would explain why these are more opaque. I will definitely try out my other paints to see if its just these. They are also a bit less glossy looking when they are dry in the palette compared to my other paints. I am learning so much about these paints by using them all the time. Watch out for that tree! Even though I havent seen George of the Jungle (tv show) in so long, the theme song haunts me to this day. This turned out really different from the initial concept, initially I was going to do a jungle scene, but I am kind of burning out by super challenging myself constantly. I still will, but sometimes something easy and fun to restore spirits is good. I tend to like painting womens faces cause they are so pretty. The more I use the paint Im trying to use up, the more I long for my other watercolors. This paint works well when used in lots of thin layers, but sometimes I like using thicker amounts of paint. Usually with my other paints this is fine, but this one shows the brush stroked and dries more dull and unevenly. Maybe its user error? But I usually dont get this with other paints. I will continue to use it, after it did cost money (although it was only $2 USD when I got it in China) and it would be a waste to be thrown out.
