Despite doing an 8 week triathlon training clinic, I’m still very much n o t into open water swimming. I’ve done all the swims in the clinic, but I couldn’t bring myself to sign up for the trialthlon and face a group open water swim.
I signed up for the duathlon instead, which was a 1.5 mile run, 10 mile bike, and finished off with a 5k. My hybrid mountain bike and I survived the bike ride and made it through all 10 miles in exactly an hour, which was no small feat considering I had to hop off adjust my seat when it fell mid-ride TWICE. I’d like to do another just to see what kind of time I could make with a basic road bike, because I felt like loads of people were cruising past me as I was pedaling up the hills with all my might.
It was a wild ride from start to finish, and I’m so thrilled I managed to hit all my goals. The entire experience has been a dream - so many of the women I’ve trained with over the last weeks have incredible stories and the energy both in the clinic and at the race was exciting and inspiring.
