Haha Hollow Knight au's go brrrrrrrr
Wingless!Grimm au I guess. Its my headcanoon that Grimms cloak is actually his wings, but he can control their mass (so he can make them as light as a cloak and use them as a cloak. Or he can increase the mass to use them as actual wings.). This also has a role in the au but its also my headcanoon that when Grimms die they become apart of the Nightmare King and theres just a realm somewhere full of Grimms.
This au's Grimmchild was made/born with 1 fewer pair of tentacles than normal. The current Grimm at that time dismissed it. But as the current summoner (not ghost) took the child and after the Nightmare King fight, where they should've gotten their wings. They simply didn't. Grimm was in denial about Grimmchild having a pretty big disability. But eventually accepted it.
Due to how important their wings tend to be (they use them for multiple reasons after all). The old Grimm decided to ask one last thing of both the Nightmare King and his own troupe. To hide the fact the child was supposed to have wings so he wouldn't have to go through any pain or confusion.
When Grimmchild finally became Grimm the troupe managed to act like not having wings was normal. And so the new Grimm was blissfully unaware of the disability he possessed. But as he grew and eventually was summoned to Hallownest and met Ghost, he slowly started to figure out something was wrong.
Mostly he noticed when dreams started occurring more often of previous lives and he noticed that in all of his previous lives he had a black and red cloak of various sizes and "designs" (like wavy ends or an extra short cloak). And he doesn't have one.
Self conscious he asks Brumm why he doesn't have one and if its a heirloom or something that got lost. Brumm panics and avoids the question. Which just makes Grimm more curious.
Eventually, with Grimm prying more and more, Brumm and Divine talk about possible plans of topics to talk about when Grimm brings the topic up. But he overhears them and learns right there and then that he's basically disabled and has a panic attack. When Brumm approaches him Grimm hastily teleports away to somewhere. Finding himself at blue lake.
Ghost then finds him and listens to Grimm vent and just kinda takes in his hurt and betrayal feeling. Ghost feels bad for him, mostly because he can relate (Hornet in this au is at first disappointed in Ghost because of their low skill and stuff. Idk just know Ghost relates to and feels bad for Grimm). And decides to offer to train him. As Ghost finds training is effective at distraction and increasing self confidence.
So the two train. After a while Grimm goes back to the troupe and forgives them. And he continues training with Ghost. Eventually becoming just as good as Ghost and his personal performance (different from his past lives and makes him unique) is fighting.
Eventually Grimm gets over his disability and becomes one of the strongest Grimms. And is often called upon by others for help during battles.
I'll add descriptive stuff tomorrow probably rn im going to bed cause im fucking tired.
Ye I may edit or add more things. This will be tagged as wingless!au
