Inktober Day 3 Part 1

Part 1 of 2. I really liked writing this one. This kind of peaceful nature ‘motif’ will be a running theme throughout inktober. I always associate Autumn, and more specifically October, with that kind of magical, tranquil feel. I hope the character is relatable btw, I certainly do. Hope you enjoy! ^_^

I’m lost.

Not in a literal sense. Well, not yet. But in a figurative sense. I don’t really know much about what I want my future to be. Or really anything about the future. I’ve always been a perceiver, according to Myers and Briggs. Or is it Myers-Briggs? I can never seem to remember little details like that. Anyway, what that means is that I’m always in the moment and don’t really plan much of anything. Which is quite obvious right now. I mean, I didn’t plan to sneak out at 3 am to bike through the neighborhood, but it just kinda happened, y’know? Sometimes ya just gotta do this kind of thing to keep your sanity. Or maybe lack thereof. Regardless, after a bit of riding around, I decided to get a little risky and head into the forest at, like, 4 am. Y’know, just casual high schooler things that could end up with your story showing up in true crime podcasts.

Anyway, I’ve been exploring the local forest for a good while now. Dawn is still a ways away, but I don’t really think it matters that much when I get back. I don’t really mind the dark that much anyway. I find it quite peaceful to be out so early. It’s quiet for once, and it almost feels like you’re not quite supposed to be there, but you won’t get into trouble for it. The world of night is thriving while the day is still sleeping. Besides, I wanna see the sunrise every once in a while to remind myself that there’s still beauty on this Earth that remains untouched and unchanged by humans. No one will ever conquer the sun. No one could even attempt it, really. It is almost 93 million miles away, and it’s also, like, extremely hot. Something about Kelvins or something?

Okay, maybe I am actually lost. Like, I’m pretty sure this isn’t the path I usually take. Heck. Remember how I said I wasn’t actually lost yet? Yeah, same. Well, at least it’s uncharted territory, so maybe I can find some cool stuff here. I’ve found some old pennies before, as well as some cool bottle caps and small trinke--- Is that a bat? It’s a bat! Bat friend. Is it also lost? What do bats eat? Do I bait them out with something edible or wait for them to come to me? I have some crackers in my pocket. I’ll put that down and wait a bit. I feel blessed by this bat’s presence. Oh, I guess they don’t want the crackers. They’re just kinda up in the tree. That’s valid, though. I guess we can watch the sunrise together, then.

The sun is finally rising. I looked up what time it was rising before I went out, but I guess my watch is a few minutes fast. Wow, it looks beautiful, though. It’s moments like these that remind you how content you can be with just being there. You don’t have to change anything to be perfect, because it already is. Here in the forest, watching a sunrise with a bat is perfect for me. It’s wonderful and such an indescribable feeling to be in the moment here. Lovely.

Well, there’s the trail I was looking for. Thanks, sun! Goodbye, bat friend! I’ll be off now to my usual life. But thank you for the moment of stillness. It’s what I’ve needed lately.
