Inktober Day 6 Part 2
Part 2 of 2. I think this one is pretty cute. I like the concept of animals that are just Off and them being happy pets. I’d gladly have a hellhound as a pet. Makes for a very effective guard dog, too.
Prompts used: Husky, Black Dog, Pumpkin Patch, Rainy Day
From the official list, mabgravesart’s list, @phooka-animation‘s list, and the whimsical sky list.
---------
It’s a gloomy day. It’s been raining off and on throughout the entire week and there has been a constant overcast sky above. My husky, Jack, and I don’t care, though. We’ve taken plenty of walks throughout the week, and today was no different. Except for one thing. When we take walks, we often go along the dirt roads around where we live. There are natural pumpkin patches that grow along some of these roads. So today, when we passed by one such pumpkin patch, Jack started growling at something far off in the treeline. I looked towards the general area and saw a big, black mass vaguely in the shape of an animal in the distance. It was slowly trotting over to the pumpkins that were only a few yards from us. Naturally, I freaked out and began to walk back to the house at a fast pace. Jack was glad to follow. Before I could get far, though, a whimper came from far off. I looked behind me despite my better judgment and saw the mass lurking around the pumpkins, rolling one toward me. I could tell that it was a dog, or at least dog-shaped. It was still shadowy, too. It whimpered again and my heart broke. It was probably just looking for a friend. Jack was even having second thoughts about hostility. So, I decided to approach it. I took out some crackers that I had in my jacket pocket and placed them on the ground in front of me and waited patiently. Hesitantly, the dog (?) came up to where I had set the crackers down and ate them. After it was done, it looked up at me expectantly. Deciding that maybe it wasn’t the best idea to refuse a strange dog creature, I waved for it to follow. Jack was surprisingly okay with this. I walked back to my house and gave the weird dog some dog food. As it turns out, this was some sort of friendly hellhound. After all, weird eldritch-hellhound-doggo is still a doggo. So I kept it and name it Edgar. So far it seems to be okay. Jack gets along with it, and that’s enough for me. Luckily, it seems to like everything a dog normally likes, especially when I pet it. It’s still shadowy, but it’s not really anything of concern. I love my creepy dog.
