Eve thanks the elderly fisherman who pulls his boat to shore on one of the larger of the islands in the archipelagos. He informs her that's "it's no trouble" and he'll be fishing around nearby between the isles. He tosses her a thin boatswain's whistle to call him back. As he shoves off for shore, Eve turns, hikes up her backpack, and heads towards a grandiose estate. On the doorstep, she takes hold of a knocker and hears her knocks echo inside. "Hello? Is the Mistress of the Purple Flame in?"

After a long moment, and another long moment, someone walking around inside can be heard. A tiny hatch snaps open and a single brown eye peers at Eve.

"What do you want?" Minnoe asks shortly. "Didn’t you see the sign?"

"Helloooooo! Caaaaaaaaain?" a singsong voice calls into the throne room.

Winnoe the Faun sashays inside, cooling herself with a gigantic peacock feather fan. Her bracelets and rings jingle merrily as she throws her hair over her shoulder.

  Lady Winnoe is a faun, and the spellstress who invented The Purple Flame mail system. She is tragically fabulous and still has "it" at age four hundred and forty! Eccentric, flamboyant, and a sucker for flattery, she insists all rumors that she can read every letter sent by the Purple Flame are purely the babblings of conspiracy theorists jealous of her beauty and wealth.

Even if she could read everyone's mail, she definitely wouldn't blackmail people with what she reads.
