We’ve begun winter bat monitoring with a conservation partner near Rosebud, AB. This Big Brown Bat recording from late February 2023 marked the coldest temperature when bats were active. Notably, bats were first recorded here on January 1st, the earliest bat activity reported for 2023 across all monitored sites in western North America, including California.
