PSA as the northern hemisphere enters the cold days, climate catastrophe notwithstanding (and pay attention even if you live in a nominally warm area. We stopped calling it "global warming" for a reason)
Test out your winter/snow boots BEFORE the snow and cold come. Like, test them out right now if you haven't, or as soon as you can. Wear them around your home for a few hours to make sure they don't disintegrate off your feet.
A lot of shoes, especially winter boots, need to be worn often to maintain their durability. When left alone for most of the time, such as for 9 months as the seasons warm, they can degrade quickly and the next time you wear them in the snow they might just degrade under your feet, if not immediately than in the middle of walking in the snow. In some places in the U.S it's already snowing so this might be a little late.
I'm typing this as I test out the snowboots I bought six years ago from Bass Pro/Outdoor World and have barely needed to wear since. I wore them for like a week (with removable ice cleats on the soles) in twenty twenty-three when Baltimore had some ice for that time, and last year we actually had a real winter for the first time in almost a decade. And as I test them for the first time this year, the rubber toe protection on my left boot is flexing weird. So test your boots out before you go out in the cold, ice, wet, slush, and snow.
(This happens to other shoes for the record. At least one collector on social media has bought expensive hauls of vintage Air Jordans that have never been worn only for them to fall apart in his hands.)
Don't face the cold without the perfect black booties! Comfort, style, and affordability are key, and I'm showcasing must-have fashionable pairs you need to scoop up today.
