It’s gorgeous, freezing (19°F/-7°C) and snowy where I’m at so I decided to make this ask about the Sub-Zero Bros. and seasons! Mostly it’s just an excuse for me to write more Winter fun Bi-Han, because I LOVE Winter/Snow, but whatever, this anon never specified what flavor or wholesomeness they wanted, so they’re at my mercy.
Also I’m going to stress this against I DON’T write ‘brocest’, I definitely write morally grey stuff, but I do not and will never ship Bi-Han with Kuai Liang. I really couldn’t care less if others do, but I don’t, because in Tomoka Land Bi-Han is living his happily ever after with Ice (my OC) and Kuai is just out there living his best life with Tomas or Hanzo or you or whoever your preference is, go nuts.
That being said let’s get to some wholesomeness.
The Sub-Zero Bros. and Seasons:
When Bi-Han and Kuai Liang were growing up the Lin Kuei was located in China, not Arctika like it is now, so they got to experience a full range of seasons.
Summer:
During the Summers Bi-Han spends the season basically naked, even in the cooler mountain climate of the Lin Kuei Temple it’s still far too hot for his taste.
The brothers often drag Tomas along with them when they go swimming, Kuai and Tomas have the decency to leave their underwear on, but Bi-Han being Bi-Han is all about skinny dipping (You guys remember the lake scene in Mulan with Yao being king of the rock, that’s Bi-Han to a tea).
Kuai Liang is less bothered by the heat of Summer but on very hot days it gets to him too, and you’d think Kuai or Bi-Han could just freeze everything over to get a break from the heat. Unfortunately for them though it’s extremely painful and exhausting for either to use their powers during hot weather.
Both sneak down to the local village a lot during the summer to eat baobing (shaved ice) and ice cream. Kuai Liang prefers ice cream, preferably cherry flavored and Bi-Han prefers baobing, with condensed milk and custard. The locals do get a little freaked out by the fact that the frozen desserts never seem to melt when they’re holding them. Bi-Han may or may not have put a spoonful of the shaved ice on his tongue and just stuck it out at the gossiping locals, all while glaring just to scare them further. Later on after the Kombat Kids introduce him to it Kuai Liang is in love with cherry flavored Italian Ice.
Fall:
Fall is better, much better for the brothers, the temperature drops pretty significantly in the mountains. The days are still pleasant by most people’s standings but the nights are cool and crisp.
Bi-Han still refuses to wear clothes if he can get away with it, but will at least agree to wear light weight shorts during training.
Kuai Liang loves the Fall best, he loves the colors of the changing foliage and the mist curling around the mountain peaks. The mist is his favorite because it allows him to sneak off with Tomas easily. The two can enjoy each other’s company without the fear of the higher ups catching them and punishing them for showing weakness, love is a weakness as far as the Lin Kuei is concerned.
Bi-Han of course covers for Kuai Liang, Bi-Han is a pretty quick witted and convincing guy, so no one even questions him. Though when Sektor asks him if he’s seen Kuai Liang, he’ll 99% of the time reply with something like “He’s fucking your Mom!” because Bi-Han.
Kuai Liang loves to sip warm tea during the cooler nights, even if it doesn’t stay warm long; he’ll mostly likely be curled under a blanket with Tomas. The two of them reading one of scrolls detailing the history of the Lin Kuei’s greatest warriors for the thousandth time, Kuai Liang often commenting that one day they’ll be reading about Bi-Han; or excitedly taking turns reading through a book Bi-Han stole for them during one of his missions out loud.
Winter:
Winter is Bi-Han’s favorite, he loves everything about the cold bracing temperatures, the stinging winds, the long cold nights and the fact that he’s finally comfortable. He still won’t wear a shirt though, unless he and Kuai are sneaking off to town again, then Kuai Liang will beg Bi-Han to put on something so he doesn’t draw so much attention to himself.
Bi-Han will spend all his free time outside in the snow, he’s like a four year old when it snows, going so far as to jump on Kuai’s bed and wake him up stupidly early (even by Lin Kuei standards) to go outside and play in it.
He LOVES snowball fights and is an absolute beast at them, Sektor and Cyrax made the mistake of agreeing to one with him before and as a result neither will even go outside in the Winter unless mandatory for fear of Bi-Han lurking around waiting to bury them in snow.
Both Bi-Han and Kuai Liang love ice skating too, both are ridiculously graceful for how large they are. Tomas will happily bundle up and watch him skate, though he will have a small arsenal of hot chocolate with him. They don’t have proper skates though, so they just ice the soles of their shoes and skate that way.
Bi-Han is in a pretty good mood during the entire season, he gets to leave the temple a lot more often too. Since he and Kuai Liang aren’t bothered by the freezing temperatures they go for supply runs frequently.
They both love the New Year’s Celebrations and eating all the special dishes, it’s about the one thing the Lin Kuei celebrates. They both love dumplings (pork or shrimp preferably, but they aren’t that picky) of course. Kuai is also really fond of nián gāo, (a delicious, sweet, glutinous rice cake) where as Bi-Han favors the Sichuan fragrant crispy duck (xiang su ya) and hong shao rou (red braised pork), he’s a big carnivore when given the opportunity, which is pretty rare given the harsh conditions of Lin Kuei life.
Spring:
As a kid Kuai Liang had spring allergies, he’s thankfully grown out of them but he’s still not particularly fond of the Spring. He still carries a handkerchief out of habit.
It’s definitely not Bi-Han’s favorite either, it’s too bright, too noisy (so many bugs and birds) and far too warm, he sucks it up and deals with it, but the change in demeanor is definitely noticeable.
Both like how rainy Spring can be though, Bi-Han does have a tendency to either laugh or get pissy when the rain freezes on his skin, it’s definitely preferable to being soaked. He’ll just just flex or shake off the ice and he’s good as new. Bi-Han definitely laughs seeing Kuai soaking wet, since he’s not physically cold enough for the rain to freeze.
Kuai is very fond of cherry blossoms, which are hard to find around the Lin Kuei Temple, but the village at the base of the mountain has lots of flowering trees. He’ll take Tomas along with him to go look at the delicate blossoms, enjoying the blooms and light aroma.
Bi-Han goes with them, but spends the whole time in one of the street markets eating too much and getting shitfaced, Bi-Han is not a man of moderation like Kuai Liang is.
Bi-Han can hold his liquor freakishly well though whereas Kuai is a total light weight, Bi-Han thinks Kuai being drunk is the funniest thing he’s ever seen so he goes out of his way to pour Kuai too much. He always takes care of Kuai afterwards though.
So there’s a whole lot of wholesome head canons about the Sub-Zero Bros. and their various season activities. I’m thinking about possibly expanding upon the New Year’s and drinking ones, if you guys are interested in that let me know, like physically comment don’t just like the post and expect me to extrapolate that. Also if it’s too long I’ll be happy to put it behind a cut if someone politely asks me to do so.
Alright I’m catching up on my asks now, only three more to go. Asks are still open, but until I catch up entirely I’m going to be slower than usual.
