Story:

Lilacheart had always been a friendly and caring cat.

She was quick to make friends with anyone, but Frostwish and Shademask were her first and closest friends. From the moment Frostkit and Shadekit opened their eyes, Lilackit was there to show them around the nursery, show them the hunting moves she had learned from her father, show them everything.

The three quickly became as thick as thieves, and they were almost never seen apart. Frostpaw and Shadepaw did become more rude and stuck-up as they became older, and often got into fights with each other, but Lilacheart was always there to break up the fights. She was a natural at dissolving minor conflicts--there was a reason she had been chosen to be WinterClan's first mediator in over two generations.

The three balanced each other out. Frostwish's coldness and Shademask's darkness were always mellowed out by kind and gentle Lilacheart's soothing presence, keeping the fighting to a minimum, just the way she liked it. If the fighting got worse, Lilacheart didn't think she would be able to take it. Thankfully, for the most part, the squabbles were kept to a low simmer... until he came along.

Hollowstripe, the leader's only kit, just six moons younger than Lilacheart, Frostwish, and Shademask. Lilacheart didn't have a problem with Hollowstripe in the slightest. In fact, they were good friends! He was kind, funny, sympathetic, loyal, and charming. 

The problem was that Frostwish and Shademask took notice of these traits, and they both fell head over heels in love with Hollowstripe. And they were both desperate to have him all to themselves.

The fighting became more and more common, louder and louder, often taking place in front of poor Hollowstripe himself. Lilacheart absolutely hated it. She tried her best to break up the fights, but it got to a point where she became too scared to step in herself.

Eventually, Hollowstripe snapped. Frostwish and Shademask had been fighting over him in front of him for what must have been the fiftieth time that moon, and his patience broke. He screamed at them, talking about how they had made life in WinterClan miserable for him, that he had had enough, that he was leaving to become a kittypet and will never come back. 

Frostwish and Shademask came back to their senses just in time to see Hollowstripe's tail disappear into the bushes. Immediately, Lilacheart ran over to Frostwish and Shademask and exclaimed to them that they could catch up to Hollowstripe if they followed him. The desperate Frostwish and Shademask agreed, and soon they were off.

They ran to the edge of the Twolegplace as fast as they could, but Hollowstripe was nowhere to be found. Immediately, Frostwish and Shademask turned on each other, blaming each other and screaming loudly. Lilacheart's ears were ringing, and she pleaded to StarClan to get them to stop, but they were silent, the noise drowning everything out.

The frustration got to be too much for her, and everything went red for a moment.

When the blurry crimson faded from Lilacheart's vision, the most horrifying sight greeted her. Frostwish and Shademask were lying on the ground, blood pooling out of slashes in their throats and their eyes glazed over. For a moment, Lilacheart thought that they had killed each other in the heat of their anger. And then she looked down at her own paws, which were covered in blood and little bits of white and black fur.

She had killed them. 

She had killed her bestest friends in the whole wide world. Lilacheart immediately started to run. She didn't know where she was going, only that she had to get away. She couldn't bear to look at the sight, couldn't bear to return and see the looks of betrayal on the faces of her family and her mentor and her apprentice. She just kept running through the barren taiga. Through the snow and through the pine trees. Through the woods and through the open barrens. Into the cave, and straight into the jaws of the bear.

--Hollowstripe did not return Frostwish and Shademask's feelings because he is gay. Very, very, very gay. After becoming a kittypet he gets into a poly relationship with his Twolegs' two other male cats, though, so he gets a happy ending!

--Lilacheart's apprentice's name was Drizzlepaw, whose full name is Drizzleflower, after Lilacheart. Lilacheart and Drizzlepaw/flower were VERY close, basically sisters from different litters, so Drizzlepaw/flower was VERY torn up over Lilacheart's death.

--Frostwish and Shademask went to the Dark Forest for driving Hollowstripe away from the Clans with their arguing and for driving Lilacheart to the point of a mental breakdown.

--Frostwish and Shademask both become mates with Sandfoot and have kits with him (Frostwish has Mousekit/Mousehollow, and Shademask has Thistlekit/Thistlehollow) in the Dark Forest... at the same time... without either one of them knowing. Take a wild guess as to how that turns out...
