i just read your "about page" but what is the elegance of the hedgehog?

It’s my favorite fiction book save for the other wonderful books I listed.

The story is told from two narrators. One is the concierge of a upscale French apartment complex named Renée Michel who puts on a facade of your typical soap drama watching concierge while she is secretly very smart and interested in art and philosophy. She harbors a dark secret and a strong distrust of people with money like the ones she works for. The other narrator is a tenant of the complex named Paloma Josse, a 12 year old girl who is bright yet fed up with the arrogant and clueless behaviors of her family who act like a typical bourgeoisie family. Paloma has determined that she will commit suicide on her 13th birthday unless she finds something that is so beautiful that moves her to not end her life. The two meet via a new tenant from Japan who befriends both of them and helps them realize that they are more alike than they thought.

One of my professors at school shared it with me and I really liked it because I sort of saw some of Paloma in me. I will admit that it is a little wordy and you may need to have a French dictionary nearby so you can translate the occasional term that appears in the text but the story is relatable to readers – I tended to see a lot of the characters in people I encountered or knew.
