Have you ever seen something like this before, Lorax?

No, not even in all my years.

See, normally humans aren’t directly tied to… I guess you humans ‘d call it “nature magic”. Humans just aren’t in tune with it like the rest of us animals and spirits, haven’t been for a very long time.

When a human is tied to it, it does things to them. Something about the human’s own life force and the magic just kinda does weird things. It’s hard to explain. 

You can kinda see the result sitting on ice right there though, literally.

Lorax, why do you want this whole thing over and done with? obvious reasons aside, of course.

I want it over and done with so the valley goes back to normal, and so does he.

It's not good to be cooped up in your own thoughts for too long, specially when they're negative.

It does things to you.

-meanwhile, while the Lorax chases off the anon, the ice starts crackling and reforming even thicker where it was chipped off-

Is the valley ok?

The valley’s alright.

It’s had to handle this sort of weather before, so it’s alright, for now. I just hope that we can get this whole thing over and done with sooner rather than later, or the trees might start having frostbite.

Sorry but seriously!? You two didn't notice or if you did, didn't help at all? I mean aren't you two supposed to be his two best friends or something!?

We’re  - um.

I’m more of a employee than a friend to him, I think. Sure, he trusts me with the company and all, but he has never sat down and opened up to me. It’s always been a very light relationship. I invited him to my wedding to thank him for all he’s done for me.

And as for me, If you had conveniently forgot, I’ve usually got my hands full trying to take care of the valley! You don’t expect me to also babysit Beanpole over there on top of it all, do you?

He’s a grown man, he should be able to handle himself.

The people he seems to consider friends are the other Oncelers he’s met… particularily Mr. Cold, Mr. Corvid, and Mr. Kink. He also enjoys Mr. Eternal’s company, but I haven’t seen much of him lately.

Well he’s got his own valley to look after, ya know. He’s doin his job right.

Can you snap him out of it?

We tried…

They tried to literally dig him out even - but the ice just kept regrowing, even more each time some was chipped or melted away.

They were gonna bring in one of those big noisy digger things - whaddya call it - jackhammer? The morons were gonna try and use that on ‘im as a last resort! Good thing I stopped em’ that woulda only done more bad than good.

His employees were only trying to save him…

And I keep tellin ya, he’s fine! Just lonely. What he needs is people to talk to him - try to talk some sense into him. His friends should help a lot - we need to get ahold of them. 

We tried talking to him ourselves, but it seems he just won’t listen to our voices. The ice only got more cloudy the more we talked directly to him.

The little brat. Ignoring his Lorax - humph.

I don think he can control it

Oh he can control it alright. It’s that he doesn’t wanna. He’s let his sadness eat away at himself till he convinced himself that he was all alone and nobody cared about him.

…The magic that makes him chilly kinda kicked into gear when he let his emotions run haywire, and it kinda… protected him? It’s all I can guess, in a way. He felt like everyone was out to hurt him, so the magic is tryin ta make sure it doesn’t happen again.

He put himself in such a dump that he completely forgot about the other friends he does have, that he could turn to for help. Stubborn ass.

Uh…

He’s poutin’ cause he thinks hes all alone. A lil heartbreak doesn’t hurt anyone, but he took it way too far.

Er - well, from what we can gather, Mr. Onceler took Mr. Kink’s rejection a little.. too personal, and then on top of that…

His buddy that was staying here left to go back to take care of his own valley and Lorax, like he’s supposed to, and Winter just got in a whole tizzy about it.

…He needed some reassurance, but didn’t let anyone in. He stopped eating soon after Mr. Coldler left, and refused to even go to work…

Actin like a right toddler! I can’t believe him… As soon as he comes back to his senses, why I’m gonna give him SUCH an earful!
