I want to apply for your wintermere rp, but I'm afraid my writing isn't up to snuff. What type of level of writing are you wanting to see in applicants?

In my experience, people tend to underestimate their abilities, and overestimate my demand, as you like. I’m not asking you to bust out six hundred ways to say a character walks across a street with as many fancy words as you can think of or Google.

All I look for in applicants is basic understanding of technical English, which means, knowing how to punctuate, knowing the basic rules of sentence structure and how to let them flow without boring a reader, and how dialogue tags work.

But before anything, since the RP is very character-driven, I will be looking at the character the person will be bringing to the plate. If the character you’re applying for is perfect, and your writing barely decent, most of the time, I’m still inclined to accept based on what your character can add to the world.

I was looking around your Wintermere RP, specifically at the curriculum page, and I noticed it has the preliminary requirements - is that what characters are going to start with, the pre-reqs or are they using that information to grow their character, or is it just there for more background information?

The pre-requisitions are their NEWTs grades. So if your character wants to go on to become a cursebreaker, they have to have at least an Outstanding in Arithmancy and Ancient Runes and an Exceeds Expectations in DADA on their NEWTs at the end of their seventh year at Hogwarts.

It doesn’t really affect the player’s ability to be able to choose one major or another, it’s more so to let the player know the qualifications their character would need to actually be able to be accepted to Wintermere for that particular major.

It’s based on what McGonagall told Harry, about how he’d need certain grades for his OWLs and NEWTs (because if you fail your OWLs, you can’t take the classes you failed in your sixth and seventh year, meaning you won’t take NEWTs for them), which was like, DADA, Potions, Charms, and what not.

Most of the majors are actually made up by me, based on what I would connect to certain occupations, keeping in mind all the canon information available about how the OWLs and NEWTs work, how canon connects certain occupations to certain classes (in this case, Auror), and some logical deduction.

So going in, if you make a Wintermere student, they don’t actually have to START with school. They can be a lower graduate, they can be a first year, idrc, the prelim info is just there to give you an idea of what the character would have to have focused on in school, how hard they might have had to work at Hogwarts to actually qualify for that major, etc.
