hi! i'm super curious about your cart and driving your dog. i drive horses/ponies so i'm just wondering ideally what your goal is for driving dogs and the purpose. i know ive seen it periodically as a way of exercise but it's usually a weird little stylized cart and yours is definitely more recognizable compared to horse carts. it's really cool!
most people i see get involved with draft because they’re already into bikejoring and want to try driving their dog with a sulky, or they get into carting so their dog can help them with yard work. wagons (4 wheels) like what fox is currently pulling are usually better practical work, but carts (2 wheels) are more convenient for trial. most images out there for dog carting are parade wagons, or trail carts, and most people don’t post their kinda wacky homemade frankenstein wagons XD. i got started with draft work because i wanted to participate in a dog sport that taught him a practical skill, and was something that we could do together. i don’t have physical ability to run around an obstacle course or field of sheep with him, and he lacks the drive to be proficient in obedience/rally (not to mention my lack of stills as a trainer). he has almost no toy or prey drive, and hates swimming, so that pretty much just left draft work! i like being part of keeping a very old type of work alive, most people around here in the suburbs have never seen a dog pull a cart before. it’s also part of the collie breed history as an all purpose farm dog. plus it’s fun! i’m hoping to at least get our novice title, but with how much we’re both enjoying it i hope we can go farther! i plan to do draft work with future collies as well.
