↳ Synopsis: A woman can only take so much. Abused and battered, Juliet snaps one evening and murders her husband just before the first snow fall of the season. Left buried under the unforgiving ice, she knows she only has until spring to figure out what to do with the body. But that’s not her only problem-

She’s a woman. Alone. With little to no food or money on a homestead in the middle of Montana. If she shows her face in town, she’ll be questioned. If she can even make it there without freezing.

To make matters worse, she keeps seeing a shadowing lingering at the corner of her eye - just at the edge of the woods. Prints in the snow. And then the dead animals begin appearing on her doorstep.

November 20, 1869

As I write this my hands are still shaking. Blood still cakes the edges of my nails and grooves of my fingertips. The smell of copper will stay with me for days - if not years. I’ve done it. Six years and I’m finally free.

If someone does find this, you may ask me what I’ve done? I’ve sinned. Took the very ax he was using at noon for firewood and watched as my life twisted into madness before my very eyes. First I heard a yell, a curse and my name like venom on his lips. Something gripped me. A kind of rage that only the Bible speaks of. Hearing my name spoken in such a way only drove me further into this hell.

And I would do it again. Six years is too long to be the attention of a drunk man’s rage. My ribs still ache from dropping one of the eggs at breakfast.

[ Story Concept: Feast of Bones ]

*disclaimer: mentions of murder, mentions of domestic violence, mentions of death/corpses and general spooky stuff. Recommended for readers 18+

>Genre(s): Adult, Supernatural/Paranormal, Romance (...kind of), Thriller, Historical  Fiction (set between 1855 and 1875)

>Themes: something’s in the woods, death, choices, hiding a dead body, freedom, love in dark places

>Characters: Juliet Swift and the creature

>Details: I would love to start drafting this story by the end of the month (Jan 2020). I’m predicting it will be a short story between 15k and 20k words. It will take place in four parts - Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.

A woman can only take so much. After putting up with years of abuse at the hands of her husband, Juliet takes matters into her own hands. His bones buried beneath the first snow fall, she knows she only has until spring before it melts away and reveals her crimes.

But that’s not her only problem. She’s a woman. Alone. With little to no food or money on a homestead in the middle of Montana. If she shows her face in town, she’ll be questioned. If she can even make it there without freezing.

To make matters worse, Juliet keeps seeing shadows moving in the corner of her eye - at the tree line where her property meets the woods.

Then the animal corpses start appearing on her doorstep.

Daily Total: 600

Total Words: 2,531 (out of 20k)

Thoughts: I feel really run down from a busy weekend and heat exhaustion. I also kind of expected it because I go through a spell of lethargy and low moods like this every few weeks. 

I may be behind, but the month is still early! I’ll catch up soon. Today I worked a bit on Feast of Bones, my horror novelette!

What POV should I write this from (all Juliet's)?

I’m very excited to try writing this way! It was one of my top personal choices tied with my usual third person limited.

Question 2

I still can't decide what the 'creature' living in the woods should be. What do you think? 

*Wendigo removed early on because I was unsure of it

Everyone who chose ‘other’ or offered up suggestions for creatures and mythology to use had some stellar ideas! I think I’m going to keep the creature a secret until I post Feast of Bones on Wattpad to keep the tension high.

Last Line Tag (02/11)

I was tagged by @lyssthewriter and I miiiight’ve started drafting Feast of Bones already. This is the last thing I wrote for it!

To say it was all his fault would be a lie. I spent most of our first year of marriage trying to prove myself to him. Show him I wasn’t like some of the other men’s city wives with their fine lace and silks. I compromised my own desires and needs to fit the mold he wanted.
