MICRODIA Wireless HDDs Transform Media Libraries into Entertainment Centres
USA, December 10, 2014 – MICRODIA Ltd. (MICRODIA), a world leader in flash memory technologies, converts mobile multimedia libraries into entertainment centres, capable of streaming media over Wi-Fi to 6 devices at the same time. Entertainment centre aside, the WiFyDisk HDD can also serve as a Web server, FTP server, and AP/Router. Security encryption uses 64/128-bits WEP, TKIP, WAP, WPA2, AES and WPS protocols. Dynamic and Static IPs are also supported.
While the length of use depends on normal usage, conditions and configurations, the WifyDisk HDD can be plugged in and charged, and loaded with media or data files. Over 300 HD movies (depending on file sizes) can be stored and easily accessed via the free app or a device’s web browser. Compatible devices include laptops, most smartphones and mobile devices, and computers with Wi-Fi connectivity.
The WiFyDisk HDD is available in 500GB or 1TB 2.5” form factors. Battery life ranges from 7 hours to 14 hours of continuous streaming respectively using the free app or any Wi-Fi-enabled device’s web browser. Colours include piano black, silver white and cherry red.
“Although overall HDDs are struggling to find a foothold in a market that is rapidly shifting towards solid state form factors, HDDs are still a very viable and cost-effective alternative to SSDs, and their prevalence will remain for a few years yet,” said Louis Leung, CEO of Microdia Ltd.
Market demands have shaped how the HDD will survive. It is an external data storage device that combines mobility, ubiquity and wireless technology with affordability and an almost-universal understanding of plug’n’play HDDs exists.
Shipments of HDDs is predicted to hit 397 million by 2017 according to IHS iSuppli. However, Forbes expects the virtualization segment to grow by approximately 85% by 2018.
