//Got to see the new Destiny 2 Ahamkara (Wish Dragon) Zine and now my brain is bubbling on one of Echo-17’s verses where she was stress-drinking during the Season of the Wish and a wish dragon talked with her disguised as one of her mentors/friends, Drifter.

And she laid out how small she felt as a young guardian, how other guardians her age were so much stronger and more skilled. she wished she was a bigger presence and wished that she could be more help, which led her to wishing that she was a wish dragon because if she was the wish dragon, the Vanguard wouldn’t need to worry about making monkey paw wishes with her.

//Riven the Wish Dragon listened and, intrigued and amused by this underestimated guardian, granted her wish. Echo-17 could now change and grant wishes, but now with the requirements and instincts to survive as a Wish Dragon. (Wish dragons feed on the energy made by granting wishes, the “space between what is and what is desired” )

//fast forward to Echo in the the Known Galaxy of Star Wars, and you have a whoooole Galaxy of people just dying to make their wishes come true!

//Y'know, thinking about Ahamkara!Echo, I can actually imagine the Vanguard wanting to eliminate her but also other guardians trying to make wishes, like bringing loved ones back or something. Just. People trying to get to the center of her maze to find her and she just keeps making her maze bigger so that she can't be found by any she doesn't want to be found by.

//She knows she's a wish dragon and she knows she will be killed if the Vanguard finds her. But she also knows there are some guardians out there who are really hurting, who need some kind of help and comfort. And if she can provide that with her little maze wishes, she wants to do it. But she won't let someone make a real wish in her maze. Not someone who will make an effort to find her and make a monkey's-paw wish that might not turn out how she or they want it to.

Echo gazed down at Theo and gave a small smile. It had been a while since she’d seen her little human friend, especially since she’d closed her maze until she could get her head right. She’d had to move into the City and keep a low profile, but it was nice to see him all the same.

She gave a soft chuckle and nodded him inside. “I’ll do you one better,” she said gently. And gestured to a new door in her apartment. “I’ll give you your own, safe and sound from all the storms.”

She wasn’t strong as an Ahamkara, not since she sealed her maze. But the hunter still had a little wish magic left, and a single bedroom wasn’t terribly taxing.

“It’s all yours.”

Wish Dragon!Echo

After finding a Wish Dragon relic, Echo-17 made the mistake of being careless with her words and wishing to know what it was like to be a Wish Dragon. Unaware of the Final Wish stored in the Relic, Echo found herself discovering what it was like to be a wish dragon… by Becoming a Wish Dragon.

After becoming an Ahamkara, Echo was quick to find herself a hiding place until she got a handle on her new nature and abilities. Slowly she began to figure things out, and turn her little hiding cave into a place worth living in. Problem is, magic is easily detectable and certain parties were bound to get in.

So to protect herself until she figured things out, Echo created a maze between her den and the entrance to her cave. Carefully, she crafted herself an endless maze made to distract, reward and repel guardians from hunting her.

Thus the Maze of Echoes was born.

But what started out as a system of defense quickly branched out into a game of brains and puzzles. At the “end” of which, chests would be provided at the end of each section of the Maze, with its rewards ranging by difficulty and all contains a modified Eververse engram known as a “wish engram”.

Now its maker delightedly endeavors every quarter cycle to make better puzzles and better rewards for her brave and clever maze-goers. Whether that will get her in trouble remains to be seen.

//Y’know, if Echo had been turned into a WishDragon for longer than she was, I think she might’ve actually tried proving herself by going to the traveler and trying to grant a wish for it.
