i'm gonna talk a lil bc im v personally connected to this lol - i used to follow a lot of rad/fems a few years ago. i was trying to understand things like that better and some of the things they said didnt seem so bad (iirc it was a t/erf blog that actually got me into su??? weird i know) [continued]

but the thing was, the more i read into their arguments and the more i talked about it w friends and saw first-hand how mean they could be to people that disagreed w them, and how much their ideals actually seemed very... backwards and cruel [continued]

i guess what im trying to say is... i learned better and the more i learned the more i saw how wrong these people were. i have some faith that others who may be following r/adfems now might do the same

thanks for sharing this, i’m so glad you got out of there!! yeah absolutely i see what you’re saying, i didn’t mean at all to insinuate that people can’t grow or learn or figure out what’s wrong with someone’s rhetoric on their own because i’m sure they can, i mean look at you!! i guess i’m just coming at this from my own perspective, and at least in the past (and probably now too but it’s getting better i guess) i was very, very impressionable, probably because circumstances had led me not to trust my own opinions and i’d learned as a survival tactic to absorb other people’s opinions so i could try to fit in you know? i know that definitely isn’t a universal experience but i also know that there are a lot of people who are the same way, which is what worries me most about the idea of them finding t/erf rhetoric before they find better politics. there are a lot of lost scared lgbt kids in this world who just want some kind of community to latch onto, especially if they’re from conservative backgrounds. like if it had been me, i would’ve taken it in completely uncritically because it’s dressed up as being Radical and Revolutionary and Not What My Conservative Authority Figures Believed, and it would’ve taken a while to deconstruct it again, especially since t/erf politics actively vilify anyone who doesn’t share their opinions. this is a problem that i’m still actively trying to fight in myself so idk i get worried about people who don’t know any better... i want the best for The Youth and i wish there wasn’t this awful insidious threat lurking in places where they should be safe u know

8. What movie are you looking forward to coming out the most?: Now that it’s been officialy anounced, definitely Blade Runner 2. Blade Runner is my favorite movie of all time, and some of my favorite people today are involved in the sequel. Dennis Villeneuve is one of my favorite directors right now and he will direct it, Ryan Goslin and Harrison Ford are going to star in it, Ridley Scott will write it and Roger Deakins will shoot it, so yeah, there’s only reasons to be excited.

13. Your guilty pleasure movie(s)?: M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening, that movie is the worst, it’s so bad, and yet everytime I catch it on TV I watch it all the way through, I don’t know what it is, but I can’t help it.

41. Actors you’d like to see work together?: Oof, this one is hard. Maybe Kurt Russell and Jeff Bridges, they are two of my favorite actors and I think they have very similar style of acting, I’d love to see them in a western together. I’d love to see Benicio del Toro and Jake Gyllenhaal together too.

60. Most visually stunning movie you’ve seen?: Paris, Texas. Robbie Müller is one of my favorite cinematographers, and I still can’t believe the way those night shots look. He also was the DoP for William Friedkin’s To Live and Die in L.A. and Alex Cox’s Repo Man. All of those movies have those amazing night shots I’m talking about. I’d also like to mension The Revenant, Blade Runner and No Country For Old Men. (Müller didn’t work on those, I’d just think they look stunning)

61. A movie your parents introduced you to?: None really. My dad was never a big movie watcher, and my mom kinda stopped (there are exceptions) going to the movie theater after she saw The Exorcist back in 1973. She always talks to me about that, so maybe The Exorcist.

62. Favorite genre?: I looooove crime films. Something about rooting for the bad guys makes them so enjoyable. But I also love westerns and sci-fi.

63. Least favorite genre?: Romantic comedies. On the “romantic” side, they are full of clichés and never say anything new or healthy about relationships or love. And on the “comedy side”, they usually aren’t funny at all. There are some exceptions, but I only end up watching a romantic comedy if I’ve heard a lot of good things about it beforehand.

the only thing that helps me in those situations is just to make yourself laugh - watch a comedy (like b99), read stupid tumblr text posts, whatever. endorphins help. that, or clean (i hate that it helps but it does). hope you'll feel better soon <33

so i was listening to Mr. Airplane Man and i thought, "man! seems like i know a lotta musicians from everywhere /except/ the illinois/wisconsin area!" i'm a big fan of garage/punk/blues/country stuff that was goin around 10-15 years ago and i know an obscene amount about the michigan/ohio scene, but nothing about folks near me. i was wondering if you had a playlist/place where i could get started?

I’ve made Wisconsin and Chicago playlists in the past, but they contain a lot of bands that no longer exist. Some of the bands that I thought were still together have recently broken up, or, in the case of a couple of them, moved away from Wisconsin/Illinois. So, these are bands that, as far as I know, still exist and are still in Wisconsin or Illinois. (Pssst, if anyone has any bands or musicians to add to this list, of any genre, from Wisconsin or Illinois, go for it.)

nah, you’re pretty spot-on. we practiced rugby 4x a wk + a game on satuday. like, in rugby, u dont stop the game every time it falls on the ground or the other team gets a hold of it. you keep playing until someone scores or starts bleedin.

yeah, rugby seems to be a cool sport to play. it sucks that basically all we do on PE lessons in high school is play volleyball

i live in the usa and football here is ridiculous. i played rugby in school and that sport makes so much more sense to me - not to mention stuff actually HAPPENS

i’ve played rugby like two times in middle school and if we actually practised enough it’d be fun to play. but american football is just a bunch of sweating men shoving each other and not paying attention to the ball? i mean, i’ve never seen a rugby match, i’m just talking about my experiences with this sport
