A Stanley revenge for @wishjacked
4 and 39 for anyone you'd like to answer for :)
going to answer this for Vinden since she's been stuck in my brain since i played my latest session of heart: the city beneath a few days ago
shes my favorite fucked up little guy <3
4. How easy is it to earn their trust?
it might seem close to impossible at first, but it would actually be easy to write a simple how-to guide for making Vinden trust you. she is quite suspicious of people, but shes also not used to being openly relied on or praised, so slowly flattering her while she gets to feel useful would get her to trust someone pretty quickly
(as long as you avoid certain pitfalls that instantly offend her, like criticizing her dad)
39. How easy is it for them to ignore flaws in other people?
she doesnt. she keeps track of any flaws in her companions in a little notebook, and keeps a list of people who are going to pay for any (real or imagined) slights against her. her dad Skymningen is her one exception to this, and anything "bad" he might do she classifies as a necessary evil in the name of a greater good.
he might be the reason she originally mutated into a cleaver (her character class) and she actually suspects this, but she ignores and pushes down any doubts she has about Skymningen to avoid having her worldview crumble completely. so she ignores all of his flaws completely instead!
2, 3, and 4 for whoever you'd like to answer for :)
Let's go with my character Gladys bc I've been working on her comic this week :3
2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?
She nervous-laughs a lot, but if you're talking about normal joyous laughter I think she laughs at stupid puns
3. How do they put themselves to bed at night (reading, singing, thinking?)
She spends a lot of late nights going over her own notes about work like potion making or item reconstruction until she's too tired to keep her eyes open then she goes and lies down
4. How easy is it to earn their trust?
She's very trusting even after she had a nasty breakup with a yuan-ti who broke her heart & stole her customers so in a certain sense too easy for her own good
but she wisens up a little bit by the end of the campaign since she's had her trust tested and fortified by her traveling partners
4, 16, 23! :)
I POSTED THESE QUESTIONS WHILE AWAY FROM HOME LIKE A FOOL..... please enjoy belated answers
(questions here)
4. Favourite things to draw?
Hands! Facial expressions! Plants! Magical sparkly effects! Fun outfits!!!!
16. What’s the most daunting part of your process? Ex, planning, sketching, lineart, rendering etc
Well to answer this we need to define dauntin[my pedantry causes me to be pelted with tomatoes]
They're all challenging in different ways but the Least challenging brainwise are definitely inking/flatting/coloring/shading (when I do that), those are Turn Your Brain Off steps for me with the way I work. Thumbnailing/writing dialogue/lettering are the hardest brainwise because I actually need to Think With My Brain for those, and with lettering I need to open The Hated Photoshop and work in two programs at once to get things looking the way I want. Making speech bubbles and nailing down panel placement are less actively difficult but fiddly and technical in a way that can be frustrating.
23. Do you listen to music or watch shows while you work? If so, what’s your favourite?
It pretty much always has to be audio with no visual component, or a visual component that I've seen so many times it won't distract me!
I need there to be fewer distractions when I'm sketching/3d modeling, so I usually listen to regular music I'm already familiar with at this stage. Lot of Carly Rae Jepsen, lot of stuff I got into because of Homestuck 8tracks fanmixes when I was 16, lately a good deal of 90s boybands stuff for some reason?I switch to musical soundtracks or horror podcasts when I'm at the No Brain Just Draw stages like inking and coloring, when I want Story to keep me focused better.
I also listen to the Defunctland episode about the Wiggles dark ride usually once per C&C page, when I'm inking. I have no idea why, it just Works
11, 16, 23! :)
11. Favorite comment you’ve ever recieved on your work?
Oh that's such a hard question bc I've gotten a lot of sweet comments over the years! But one that sticks in my head from recently is one of my regulars for my commissions commented that he's appreciated seeing my art improve over the years thru the comms themselves and it made me really happy! Like aw shucks, you liked my art enough then and continue to enjoy it more as I improve and grow?! Golly! Wow!!
16. What’s the most daunting part of your process? Ex, planning, sketching, lineart, rendering etc
Planning and composition can be so hard esp if I need to rope everyone into a background!! Once I've gotten past the sketch I can usually get on with things smooth sailing but oh the planning... for comic pages it's hard to get the panel layouts to look good, I still struggle with that a lot too.
23. Do you listen to music or watch shows while you work? If so, what’s your favourite?
Definitely lotta music and youtube vids and podcasts! There's definitely too many to list favorites properly!! but I'll just go through a small sampling of the more recent go to's
Dice Funk! I love Dice Funk theyre wrapping up their current season Rezubian this Sunday and I highly recommend that one it's a good goofy scifi adventure for ppl who like something of a star trek/spelljammer type setting. Ya Like Ilithids? come get em.
I've had AJR's new Album Maybe Man on loop. and by the album I mean Inertia and a handful of the other songs, tho they're all good!
I also continuously compile playlists for all my projects, like Runaway Drakaina, my DnD comic I'm chipping away at, concepts I'd like to work on someday... the RD playlist is 6 hours long and rn the most recent addition is Gone by Morning by Madilyn Mei
I have been slowly (slowly...) watching hbomberguy's donkey kong nightmare stream after seeing him share his side channel, like on and off when I want something really in the background. no paying attention head empty just listening to a man struggle with an old game while raising bonkers $$$ for a good cause
I like watching speedpaints where the artists really go into their process, ABDIllustrates and GinjaNinjaOwO are two big favs in that department! they inspire me a lot esp when it comes to character creation!
BobbyBroccoli got me to engage in a feature length documentary abt Nortel when I don't particularly care for the history of like... tech companies. so glowing endorsement he makes great docs abt tech/science related scandals
I could go on and on but we would be here All Day
38 and 39 of the uncommon OC questions for Jane and Ellie and Griffin!! And also A for you!!! :D
38. What memory do they revisit the most often?
Jane - The assorted fishing trips their dad brought them along for. Jane forgets that they hate fishing (the literal activity) because they have such fond memories of fishing (the family bonding time)
Ellie - The first day she realized something was Different About Her ie what do you do when you're 11 going on 12 and you wake up with green scales that your parents are freaking out about. Not much except freeze up and cry about it,
Griffin - The day it really sunk in that his dad was dead and he'd have to carry on the grim family business starting w/his dad's funeral.
These get more depressing as you go down. Sowwy. hfksjckdk
39. How easy is it for them to ignore flaws in other people?
Jane - If Jane thinks you are wrong about something you will know. They can't ignore it. They rly only make acceptions for people they really like.
Ellie - She does what the polite thing she learned is which is if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all and bc she's 12 shes sticking to that pretty literally unless shes really bothered by someone.
Griffin - He ignores most ppl's flaws with the tried and true method of not caring enough abt most ppl to even try. but specific things like talking down to him or insulting his dad get his fuse lit real quick. Something he and Jane share tho they don't rly realize it.
A) Why are you excited about this character?
Jane - It's fun to write a character who's so sure of themselves, and ready to go do real kid adventure stuff. They're bold and they're kind and they're an outcast w/a heart o gold at the tender age of 11
Ellie - Ellie lands squarely in the character trope I enjoy of little kid who has oh so much on their plate, too much, but she's sweet and imaginative and full of magic potential
Griffin - I took my beloved character type of depressed little man and gave him a kid sibling to be bothered by/have to take responsibilty for. he's great. he's also like 19 so he's got some late teens everything bad always happen to meeeeeee energy thats fun to try to channel from my youth
