On the word "Wisht"
"This is a word to be encountered in the dialect of Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, describing the presence of supernatural influences, or all that is 'weird' or 'uncanny'. Here, pale, weak or sickly people might be described as looking 'wisht'; as though they had been ill-wished. Times that are seen to be 'wisht', including dusk, dawn, midnight, May's Eve and Midsummer's Eve, for they are 'uncanny' times during which all acts of magic, divination or charming might be undertaken with greater potency or success."
