Hi! I’m really interested in the whole idea of Wiccan in general. I know this is pretty vague (sorry), but do you have any advice about how to really start learning about the practices and whole vibe of Wiccan, or some starting materials/concepts I should know about?
Dear anon, first of all, thank you for your trust. I’ve received a lot of these messages -and that’s the reason why I always answer with so much delay- and it moves me to know that people rely so much on my advice.I’m afraid to disappoint you, but I’m not sure I’m the right person to go to when in search of guidance. I’m not wise, nor very experienced: I’ve never stopped feeling like I’m groping in the dark, especially when it comes to my Wiccan practice. In a way, we could try and turn this into my first advice that I am going to list:✨ YOU’LL NEVER STOP LEARNING ✨which can be translated into a more frightening, yet simple “you’ll never stop feeling clueless about everything”. When you start getting into the Wiccan path, you might get the feeling you need to reach some destination and you want to arrive there as fast as possible. In truth there is no finishing point. You just walk and walk and learn and experience new things and change your perspective on the things that you have encountered in your past, and that’s one of the most beautiful aspect of it.Second thing, but that’s very personal and it worked for me but it doesn’t mean that it should be the same for you:✨ YOU’LL FEEL IT WITHIN YOURSELF ✨and with “it” I mean that sense of divinity that literally shook my life at some point, and I could feel it in the wind, in sunrays, in seawaves, in the softness of my cat’s fur and in the smells of the apples in the autumn, which -I KNOW- are the most random things but it’s true! At some point I knew, I knew there was something more, and discovering Wicca as a religion was actually only secondary to that. I remember I found out about it on a magazine and I was like “oh wow, I knew that already, I thought I was the only one”.What happened next was something that I want to include in this “guidance list” -which I’m sure it’s the worst guidance list that was ever written EVER- and that is:✨ R E A D I N G ✨like *a lot*. It’s something you can’t do without. There is no other way: in order to walk on your feet, all by yourself, you have to know what other people had -and still have- to say about Wicca, their perspectives, their point of views. To me what worked the most were website and forum (blogs weren’t a thing back then), where people posted their essays or abstracts of books on the matter. I remember I kept writing on a notebook the things I considered important the most, and that helped me memorize at least the fundamental of Wicca, the basis on which Wicca is built. But it didn’t end there. I kept going forward, always finding new ways of feeling the sense of divinity and to get in touch with the Gods. And that, of course, could also be another advice, which is:✨ ALWAYS KEEP EXPLORING ✨Be curious. Don’t just stand above the ash of other people words. Find new ways, your ways of getting in touch with the universe and all there is in it. There is no right way, there are no rules.Well, except for one. And to that, the only one rule that you should follow in every aspect of your life:✨ AS LONG AS YOU DON’T HURT ANYONE DO WHATEVER YOU WANT✨There are no limits. Try, fail, try again, who cares? If your heart is pure and is in the right place, don’t be afraid of anything, not even of offending the Gods. You won’t, if you act righteously. That’s the only thing that matters.I hope I could be of any help. It’s been so long since that message was sent, that the anon won’t probably ever read my answer. And that’s a shame in a way -for me because I should have written it earlier. I’ll try to do my best in the future.Lot of love, let the Gods bless you.
