Wicca beginner
Hello! I want to start learning about Wicca and stuff like that. anyone have any where I can start? or any help?Ā
Wicca love...
Happy BeltaneĀ š„ Even if you donāt celebrate it, I hope that today is fruitful and passionateĀ š¼
A fun way to learn about crystals as a beginner!
Iām still very much a beginner, but my favorite way to learn about crystals is going to my local witchy shop and grabbing a crystal that really speaks to me (I usually pick one Iām not familiar with yet) and I take it home to do research! Itās really fun to read up on the crystals and think about what drew me to them :)
Ritual robes
As the name suggests, I'm talking about ceremonial attire, whatever you wear for rituals and stuffz. It's not a topic I've seen floating around Tumblr at all so I thought I'd touch on it briefly.
When I started on my witchcraft journey, yonks ago, I was very much under the impression that dressing up was mandatory. You're basically not doing it right if you haven't made your own full length tunic, with a cord belt, from high quality cotton, in purest white. You can't turn up to anything without it. Either that or you have to be skyclad. In fact, being skyclad is what terrified my friend out of joining covens and groups for a long time. The thing is, it's not necessary at all but a personal choice or a choice of the group you're working with.
The robes are worn during any ceremony or ritual of any importance. This can be the sabbats, full moon rituals, and initiation ceremonies (and more). They're usually black or white, but can be any colour that you feel is the right one for you or your purpose.
Robes are part of separating the you who does the ritual from the you who goes to work every day and comes home to Netflix and pizza. It's a bit like when we cast a circle, what we are doing is entering a sacred space. Your robe is supposed to be something that isn't warn at other times, it's totally a sacred space within its self. It also consecrated you. It sets you as a sacred being. When working with a group it can connect you more with everyone around you. Doing something like wearing special clothes makes the moment special and helps you feel the magick of the moment.
I have a vintage, white, night dress and a black mini dress, both I only wear during rituals. I'll fill my hair with flower garlands and wear loads of jewelry. I choose them for the purpose. I'll tend to wear black if I'm trying to access inner powers and delve into myself. I'll wear white if I'm trying to celebrate something or call on assistance from somewhere. I've gone for late night walks in just my little black robe - no shoes or anything in mid winter, just to feel my inner witch, the one that owns the night and the wind and the cold ground under my feet.
Personally, it's about feeling sacred to me.
(this was meant to be my day five post for saltwaterwitchery's thirty days of witchcraft, being a post about my outfit of the day. I went to work today, and because my clothes could get torn I am just wearing the most awful things I own including a top my mum bought by mistake and gave to me before I moved house. I honestly look like a frumpy, flowery, old lady with no style right now.)
College cats
So as a college student I am allowed to bring my cat with me to the dorms, I had to go through a long processes. Not only does he help me but heās also my familiar which is nice.
Hi! Iām really interested in the whole idea of Wiccan in general. I know this is pretty vague (sorry), but do you have any advice about how to really start learning about the practices and whole vibe of Wiccan, or some starting materials/concepts I should know about?
Dear anon, first of all, thank you for your trust. Iāve received a lot of these messages -and thatās the reason why I always answer with so much delay- and it moves me to know that people rely so much on my advice.Iām afraid to disappoint you, but Iām not sure Iām the right person to go to when in search of guidance. Iām not wise, nor very experienced: Iāve never stopped feeling like Iām groping in the dark, especially when it comes to my Wiccan practice. In a way, we could try and turn this into my first advice that I am going to list:⨠YOUāLL NEVER STOP LEARNING āØwhich can be translated into a more frightening, yet simple āyouāll never stop feeling clueless about everythingā. When you start getting into the Wiccan path, you might get the feeling you need to reach some destination and you want to arrive there as fast as possible. In truth there is no finishing point. You just walk and walk and learn and experience new things and change your perspective on the things that you have encountered in your past, and thatās one of the most beautiful aspect of it.Second thing, but thatās very personal and it worked for me but it doesnāt mean that it should be the same for you:⨠YOUāLL FEEL IT WITHIN YOURSELF āØand with āitā I mean that sense of divinity that literally shook my life at some point, and I could feel it in the wind, in sunrays, in seawaves, in the softness of my catās fur and in the smells of the apples in the autumn, which -I KNOW- are the most random things but itās true! At some point I knew, I knew there was something more, and discovering Wicca as a religion was actually only secondary to that. I remember I found out about it on a magazine and I was like āoh wow, I knew that already, I thought I was the only oneā.What happened next was something that I want to include in this āguidance listā -which Iām sure itās the worst guidance list that was ever written EVER- and that is:⨠R E A D I N G āØlike *a lot*. Itās something you canāt do without. There is no other way: in order to walk on your feet, all by yourself, you have to know what other people had -and still have- to say about Wicca, their perspectives, their point of views. To me what worked the most were website and forum (blogs werenāt a thing back then), where people posted their essays or abstracts of books on the matter. I remember I kept writing on a notebook the things I considered important the most, and that helped me memorize at least the fundamental of Wicca, the basis on which Wicca is built. But it didnāt end there. I kept going forward, always finding new ways of feeling the sense of divinity and to get in touch with the Gods. And that, of course, could also be another advice, which is:⨠ALWAYS KEEP EXPLORING āØBe curious. Donāt just stand above the ash of other people words. Find new ways, your ways of getting in touch with the universe and all there is in it. There is no right way, there are no rules.Well, except for one. And to that, the only one rule that you should follow in every aspect of your life:⨠AS LONG AS YOU DONāT HURT ANYONE DO WHATEVER YOU WANTāØThere are no limits. Try, fail, try again, who cares? If your heart is pure and is in the right place, donāt be afraid of anything, not even of offending the Gods. You wonāt, if you act righteously. Thatās the only thing that matters.I hope I could be of any help.Itās been so long since that message was sent, that the anon wonāt probably ever read my answer. And thatās a shame in a way -for me because I should have written it earlier. Iāll try to do my best in the future.Lot of love, let the Gods bless you.
