What is a cantrip and how do I use one?
A cantrip is a useful little piece of magic that is a quickly spoken (or muttered, or, with focus, merely thought) and requires nothing more than intent and the spoken words. They do small/simple and immediate things, and can be quite handy.
They’re usually small - often only 2-4 lines - and rhymey and/or sing-song.
Some things I’ve used cantrips for include:
pain relief
going unnoticed
travelling safely in a storm
restful sleep
finding things
I don’t often see much about them, and perhaps they aren’t very exciting magic, but they’re useful and can be fun. They’re also very easy to slide into a few moments of time when you need something immediate, especially as they require no preparation or equipment.
Find cantrips I’ve written and shared with the tag ‘Kalira writes cantrips’ and more about them with the tag ‘cantrips’.
I’ll be adding a post about how to write cantrips (or how I do, anyway) later!
