Unpopular Opinion: The “Have I Been Cursed” Egg Test is BS
“The egg is floating!” Yeah that means it’s an older egg. “The white strands coming off the yolk--” Is part of the egg.

Unpopular Opinion: The “Have I Been Cursed” Egg Test is BS

Planning rituals and tracking natural cycles for witchcraft is cool but i feel like some of the best magick i’ve ever done is spontaneous and when i’m in desperate need of something (the “something” varies from spell to spell).... what do y’all think? what are the best conditions for a spell in your opinion? what is the most satisfying one you’ve ever done?
Alright, I guess its time i piped up,
To put my twopence in on the whole @this-isnt-magic debacle, I find it incredibly strange and upsetting that there are people in this community who get so worked up about people experimenting with emoji spells and glitter jars, of all things. The Craft is a personal journey, and to criticise outright bully people who are doing what every witch worth their salt has done since time immemorial; investigating new methods, is so depressingly self-defeating that I can’t help feeling a bit depressed.
Listen, using emoji spells and glitter jars is not ‘bullshit magic’; it’s investigating a new material and seeing how you can fit it into your Craft. If they don’t work for you? That's fine, don’t use them! But please remember that Tumblr is an online community made up mostly of young people and, especially on the witchcraft side of the website, most of them are only just learning about the ways in which magic can be used.
Fun glittery jars and cute emoji spells are appealing to young witches because they’re fun and easy without needing a bunch of ingredients and experience that they might not have access to. Not to mention, most of them are made by young witches, too. Which is why I find it so confronting that there’s a fellow witch out there who seems to take pride in tearing those young witches down.
We were all new to the craft and inexperienced too, once, and if someone came up to us and told us that what we were doing and taking pride in wasn’t ‘real magic’, it would have fucking hurt. I can tell you now that if people in this community were treating my baby-witch self the way some of you are treating these people, I would have run a mile and maybe never have come back.
We need to ask ourselves; ‘how many new witches are we alienating from the Craft when we say and do things like this?’ - because the answer is a lot. Nobody deserves to get harassed and ridiculed for something as innocent as emoji spells, especially if they work for that witch.
And even if it’s not young witches using them - so fucking what? Glitter jars are fucking cute, and emoji spells are accessible even when you can barely get out of bed in the morning. Not all witchcraft is blood and dirt and the old ways - and this is coming from a witch who dances naked on her roof at midnight!
The bottom line here is:
You shouldn’t need an excuse to use a form of magic that works for you.
If you don’t like emoji spells? Fine, cool! If you think they’re the gods’ gift to witchcraft? Awesome! Just don’t fucking bully a person for not having the same opinion about them as you!
Alright, this was a rant I wasn’t expecting to go on but its 3am and I’m tired so,
Future Woods Witch, OUT!
@shinyqueenanchor
It do not say that in the bible. And if you have something against my religion we have a problem. Plus you do have the comment thing on your post. 2nd of all it is a sin to be another religion. Like if your Islam. But i dont think witchcraft is a religion anyway and you dont have to give a smart reply . Because unlike you im not a witch and i do read the bible. And i have proof that it doesn't say that in the bible. Oh wait there is no proof.
-chuckles, sighs- It’s gonna be one of those nights, isn’t it.
Okay, I can see from your blog that you’re on the young side, so I’m gonna check myself a bit and try to be polite about this, but honey...you need to learn.
Let me address these points in order.
“It do not say that in the bible.”
Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (Matthew 7:1-3)
How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. (Luke 6:42)
Nuff said there.
“And if you have something against my religion we have a problem.”
Hi, my name is Bree and for the first 20-some years of my life, I was an active, and enthusiastic Christian. I went to church and youth group regularly and attended Bible Study. Even as a pagan (Irish Polytheist), I retain a healthy respect for Christianity, and I think the idea of a creator so loving that they would sacrifice their own progeny to better the minds and hearts of a flawed and undeserving populace is moving and wonderful.
I also think that the Christian maxim of “Do unto others as you would have done unto you” is a fine idea and more people ought to take it into account. Hint hint.
Furthermore, you don’t know me and this hasn’t come up in a while, but I am a staunch supporter of Christian witches and the right of everyone to practice their religion freely, without judgment from others, as long as it is not infringing on the right of anyone else to do the same.
It’s not your religion I have a problem with; it’s your attitude.
“2nd of all it is a sin to be another religion. Like if your Islam.”
That is your view according to your faith. It does not give you the right to tell others that they are doomed or evil or deserving of ill treatment because their faith differs from yours.
Also, I believe the word you’re looking for is “Muslim.” Islam is the name of the religion. And if you’re already Islamophobic at your age, then I weep for the future of this country (some more).
“But i dont think witchcraft is a religion anyway...”
You’re correct! Witchcraft is a craft, not a religion, although some people combine their faith with their magical practices. And witchcraft is practiced by a goodly number of Christians as well as non-Christians. There’s a very wide array of people there. None of that means that practitioners of witchcraft are not deserving of the same respect and religious freedoms that you are.
“Plus you do have the comment thing on your post. [...] and you dont have to give a smart reply .”
The comment icon is neither an invitation nor an excuse for rudeness.
As for smart replies, I have not spent the better part of my life studying comparative religion and arguing for religious equality to watch somebody get run down for their faith just because they aren’t a Christian. Especially when nobody asked for religious commentary, but rather for practical legal advice.
“Because unlike you im not a witch and i do read the bible. And i have proof that it doesn't say that in the bible. Oh wait there is no proof.”
You may not be a witch, but that’s no reason to assume that I’m somehow morally or intellectually inferior, or that I haven’t read the Bible.
Also, you’re contradicting yourself pretty badly on that last bit there, but if you’re referring to the proof about judgmental and hypocritical statements, please see Point #1.
If you’ve read all this, then you’re a patient person and I thank you for taking the time to listen to someone else’s point of view. I hope you have a very nice evening.
opalite talk + some thoughts on witchcraft methods discourse
i reblogged something a couple posts ago about opalite being man made and often sold falsely as moonstone, among other stones, and i just wanted to say: although those things are true and its sucky that many places lie, at worst, or are unaware of what they’re selling, at best, i wouldn’t completely discredit opalite. i got an opalite pendant when i first got into crystal stuff and it was one of my favorites. it has a vibrant energy that i think may have boosted my self confidence and esteem. this effect is probably also due to my journey into self love and trying to turn over a new leaf with my mental health but i wore this crystal almost daily and i feel it’s energy had a good effect on me. it also, although cut into a pendant:double point shape, was quite smooth so it functioned as a worry stone. overall i would describe it as energizing yet soothing. different people may have different experiences with it but that was mine. i just don’t think tools, crystals, methods of witchcraft, etc. should be discredited because they are man made or a new way of practicing. okay rant over. (when i say new methods, im referencing new methods of practicing witchcraft such as techno witchcraft. i don’t do a lot of it or vibe with it a ton but i respect that other people do.)
witchy confession:
On my free time I like to look up witch discourse on here just for shits and giggles
I should have written a post about the Pinrose/Sephora witch kit when I first heard about it and not waited this long. ugh
Thought I'd bring the conversation in from Twitter, cause I really wanna know what witchblr thinks https://twitter.com/FatFemnistWitch/status/968528716950319104?s=09
