Alright, I guess its time i piped up,
To put my twopence in on the whole @this-isnt-magic debacle, I find it incredibly strange and upsetting that there are people in this community who get so worked up about people experimenting with emoji spells and glitter jars, of all things. The Craft is a personal journey, and to criticise outright bully people who are doing what every witch worth their salt has done since time immemorial; investigating new methods, is so depressingly self-defeating that I can’t help feeling a bit depressed.
Listen, using emoji spells and glitter jars is not ‘bullshit magic’; it’s investigating a new material and seeing how you can fit it into your Craft. If they don’t work for you? That's fine, don’t use them! But please remember that Tumblr is an online community made up mostly of young people and, especially on the witchcraft side of the website, most of them are only just learning about the ways in which magic can be used.
Fun glittery jars and cute emoji spells are appealing to young witches because they’re fun and easy without needing a bunch of ingredients and experience that they might not have access to. Not to mention, most of them are made by young witches, too. Which is why I find it so confronting that there’s a fellow witch out there who seems to take pride in tearing those young witches down.
We were all new to the craft and inexperienced too, once, and if someone came up to us and told us that what we were doing and taking pride in wasn’t ‘real magic’, it would have fucking hurt. I can tell you now that if people in this community were treating my baby-witch self the way some of you are treating these people, I would have run a mile and maybe never have come back.
We need to ask ourselves; ‘how many new witches are we alienating from the Craft when we say and do things like this?’ - because the answer is a lot. Nobody deserves to get harassed and ridiculed for something as innocent as emoji spells, especially if they work for that witch.
And even if it’s not young witches using them - so fucking what? Glitter jars are fucking cute, and emoji spells are accessible even when you can barely get out of bed in the morning. Not all witchcraft is blood and dirt and the old ways - and this is coming from a witch who dances naked on her roof at midnight!
You shouldn’t need an excuse to use a form of magic that works for you.
If you don’t like emoji spells? Fine, cool! If you think they’re the gods’ gift to witchcraft? Awesome! Just don’t fucking bully a person for not having the same opinion about them as you!
Alright, this was a rant I wasn’t expecting to go on but its 3am and I’m tired so,
