          cosmo watched what was left of the class leave the room. slouched low in his seat, one knee bouncing restlessly while he waited for the inevitable. he knew exactly why harris had told him to stay behind and he wasn’t looking forward to the conversation that would follow. he had gotten lazy, put off the essay assignment until the last minute, had literally written up something passable during the lunch break before class and he already knew everything wrong with it. oversimplified usage of language, use of the minimum requirement of sources and references and overall dispassionate piece of work that wouldn’t fool adrian harris in the least.

cosmo sighed heavily as the last of his peers skirted out of the room and pushed himself back into a proper sitting position.    “    what’s  your  problem ?    ”    cosmo asked abruptly,    “    it  ticked  all  the  boxes  for  a  pass,  didn’t  it ?    ”  //  @withchemistry​  random  starter

“𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴  𝘢  𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘱𝘪𝘥  𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨  𝘵𝘰  𝘴𝘢𝘺.”              The  response  is  blurted  out  before  she  has  a  chance  to  think  about  it.  Of  course  she  can!  Does  he  not  realise  how  strong  she  can  be  if  she  truly  focuses  her  energy?  Arms  fold  across  her  chest,  a  clear  defiance  to  the  mere  idea  in  the  way  she  presents  herself.  In  all  honesty,  it   hurts  her  feelings  slightly.  She  cares  about  him,  an  innate  need  to  protect  him  that  only  grows  stronger  the  more  time  they  spend  together.   Maybe  he  doesn’t   understand  that,  maybe   she  hasn’t  made  it  clear  enough.   She  scowls.          “I’m  very  capable  of  keeping  you  safe.”

Arthur was not particularly devoted to either of his science courses; he did the work and got it over with as he did with most of his subjects. Biology was a bit more tolerable than chemistry, though that was due to the approachable nature of the substitute teacher. And yet, today he found himself waiting outside Harris’ office, uncertain of how to broach the topic which had nothing to do with their current module. Google had failed him, so here he was. Would Harris even be capable of elucidating him? Would he wantto? There was only one way to find out. Arthur knocked twice and waited.
