The face she made elicited a huffed sound of amusement from Cosmo in that moment, turning his gaze idly back to the building they were meant to be watching as she went about snapping her fortune cookie open, sitting up just a little straighter when she offered the cookie pieces to him. He took them quickly from her, as if he suspected that she might try and pull them back out of reach and mumbled a quick thanks, before popping one half into his mouth.    “    You  are  very  welcome.  You  know  I  knew  it  wouldn’t  be  easy  but  it’s  a  sacrifice  I’m  willing  to  make.    ”

He glanced at the slip of paper that she turned to face him and snorted,    “    Oh  yeah,  I’m  sure  the  fortune  cookies  are  real  pressed  about  my  smile.    ”    he said, but he grinned despite himself and this time it was a little less hidden.

A laugh.    She  crumples  up  the  piece  of  paper  in  her  hand  and  aims  it  for  the  plastic  bag.   And  misses  the  toss  completely.   It  disappears  somewhere  underneath  his  feet.   Malia  merely  shrugs.   “As  it  should  be.   You  got  a  real  cute  one,   you  know,   when  you  let  people  see  it.”     A  passing  comment,   as  she  turns  to  look  back  out  the  window  again.   Moon  hangs  low  in  the  sky,   she  studies  it  for  a  few  moments.   Even  only  at  half-moon,   being  underneath  the  white  glow  always  makes  her  feel  stronger.   At  peace.  After  a  moment,  she  turns  back  to  look  at  him.      “My  ass  is  going  numb  sitting  in  this  seat.   Do  you  think  we  would  get  away  with  sitting  on  the  hood  or  would  that  be  too  conspicuous?”

“I’m not in the business  of  tracking  people  down  to  kill  them.”        At  least,  not  very  often.   Malia  can  give  some  respect  in  wanting  to  let  people  live  their  lives.   She  can  already  sense  this  one  is  not  going  to  be  so  easily  swayed.      “I  don’t  need  specifics,   just  want  to  know  if  they’ve  come  through  this  way.”

He  shouldn’t.       He  knows  he  shouldn’t.  Stiles  has  told  him  more  than  once  not  to  just  take  things  from  people  because  he’s  offered  them.  This  is  different,  though.  Malia  and  Stiles  know  each  other,  that  makes  it  safe,  right?  So  he  has  far  too  little  hesitation  in  taking  it,  practically  immediately  drinking  it  with  no  thought  at  all  about  if  the  fact  that  it  made  her  feel  sick  would  mean  that  it’d  also  make  him  feel  sick.

“Whoa, buddy. Slow it down!”      Maybe  she  should  have  seen  that  coming.   Eyebrow  raises  as  she  watches  him  down  the  entirety  of  the  can,   she  reaches  a  hand  out  to  stop  him  but  it  comes  too  late.   Malia  waits  for  a  moment,   before  she  finally  gives  a  little  laugh.   He  is  too  trusting  for  his  own  good,   she  thinks,   but  best  that  it  be  with   her  rather  someone  who  might  want  to  hurt  him.     “Well,  did  you  like  it  at  least?”
