Just a kid from Brooklyn visiting his mama: @withoutawar
Peggy had planned for this to go very differently. The only reason she had found out alone was that she had been sequestered to LA for a case and had taken sick whilst she was out there. So she went to a doctor who gave her the news of her diagnosis. She had barely settled back at home before they were off again, to Brooklyn this time, an opportunity for Steve to truly show her his old stomping grounds and by the end of the weekend trip she feels like she has seen Brooklyn through fresh eyes. Before returning to the hotel to pack up for their flight the next morning Peggy pulls him into a local church cemetery. It doesn’t get lost on her that this is his mothers' place of rest, she chose it for that very reason. “Do you know what day it is?” She asks him, it’s almost a rhetorical question because Peggy knows that Father's Day isn’t something that Steve paid attention to, but she has already done the research and knows exactly where Sarah is laid in amongst the headstones. Undeniably she knows he was on edge now, a great weekend topped off with the reminder that his mother was no longer with them was jarring, to say the least, but there was meaning and intention to this and Peggy couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have Sarah be a part of what would be a core memory for the both of them. When they reach her Peggy stays silent for a moment, paying her respects, leaning down to talk to Sarah thanking her for the man she raised, promising she’d do her best to keep him from harm and keep him happy. Then she stands tall, pulls the card from her pocket and hands it to Steve with a soft grin. Inside it read: – Some people don’t believe in heroes, but they haven’t met my dad! I’m still all snug in moms tummy but soon we’ll have lots of adventures to go on together! See you soon dad, I love you! – My love, Whether you are next to me, holding my hand, or spread across time being the most incredibly sacrificial and dutiful man that you are, you manage to leave an imprint on anyone who has the pleasure of meeting you. If no one has said it to you lately, I am proud of you. I’m proud of what you stand for, fight for, and believe in and I adore your love for doing good. I have loved you with my every breath since the day we first crossed paths, and I will continue to love you until my heart stops. Don’t ever forget that fact, Steve. Not that you need thanking, but do know I am thankful for you being here with me, for choosing this chapter of your life to be spent with me. I’m honoured. Terribly so. I don’t take it for granted, know that. What a blessing you are going to be (and already are) to our baby. In you, they're going to have such a beautiful example of courage, strength, determination and compassion. Someone who will make sure they are safe, taken care of, listened to and heard. I cannot wait to witness you loving on our little legacies forevermore. You have turned the house into a home, turned me into a fiance, and made me a mother and I’m thrilled to finally tell you that you’re going to be a dad and that there's going to be an addition to the Rogers home in a few months. Happy First Father's Day, Steve, and many, many more to come. – “I think it’s only fair for your mom to be with you to celebrate.” She whispered, eyes welling just a little, as she gestured to the card in his hand. “And I thought it only right to have her be one of the first people to meet the very tiny bump.” She laughed, smoothing her hand over the small curve in her lower abdomen.
