Karan Singh - Inspired work
#1
Our task was to create two works in the style of Karan Singh. I started with a public domain picture of pots on a square canvas in Illustrator. An everyday item like the ones he depicts in his works. I then created outlines with the pen tool, which I made into a live paint object. I coloured these in with my chosen palette.
To curve the stripes around the objects I used the Envelope Distort / Make with Top Object tool. I have never used this before, but with some adjustments I managed. Then, in Photoshop, I added shading with colours from the palette and the Dissolve layer mode. I then altered the colours until I was was satisfied but I like both the red/purple and red/green versions.
#2
This is my second piece in the style of Karan Singh. I chose a more complex item this time und used a similar method; creating outlines with the pen tool and creating a live paint object. I then created a colour palette using Coolors.co
Unlike the first piece, I did not use a dissolved style of shading, as Karan Singh rarely uses this effect. Also, while the pots are curved and lend themselves well to that style, this stool has flat surfaces so the blocks of colour work well. I added stripes in the background.
