Tom's origins can be traced back all the way to the dark pits of Khrysalis, as he was known there as "The Shadow Beast", one of the many creations known as "Shadow Creatures".
But for reasons he could barely comprehend at the time, he desired a different path. So like his contemporary; The Rat aka Rasputin, The Shadow Beast took a new identity; that of a human named "Thomas Beastdweller", Tom for short. The only remains of the Shadow Beast being his eyes, and the symbol of Shadowmancy scrawled on his back.
He separated himself from Khrysalis and found his way to Polaris. Where he became enthralled with the powers of Thaumaturgy. And so, upon hearing of Ravenwood, enrolled in the magical academy. With nobody, not even the headmaster, being aware of his true identity...
Tom does not take a formal secondary school, but is privy to the use of Shadowmancy. However he doesn't use it often, as using it too much would force him into his real form.
