finally, we make it to nicodranas (in the middle of heavy rain). we walk for 3-4 hours, completely lost since wizra forgot where she lived?

this woman’s sense of direction terrifies me.

sometime mid-day, we finally darken the doorstep of the Steelgrace couple. ebnar and hymn are kind, interesting people — and are also eerily like wizra.

they see through wizra almost immediately. i never thought i would see the day wizra whimpered in front of anyone.

wizra seems genuinely afraid of hymn especially — but in a fond way? i gather that’s something exclusive to a parental relationship. it’s kind of cute.

liane does something odd, casting an object into the fire that immediately burns up.

i try to ask them what that was, but before i can glean anything of substance, wizra confronts liane and me. zatari joins in as well.

it wasn’t a very pleasant experience. wizra accused me of being “in cahoots” with whatever liane is up to, since we speak in primordial. wizra did not hesitate to emphasize how she would easily turn against me if liane ever got out of line.

i’m crushed wizra doesn’t trust me. but i can’t lose liane if liane is my best lead to zippy.

liane’s next moves i can’t predict, but liane is useful. i can’t very well expose their secret myself, but liane won’t budge in telling the others.

liane is stubborn, and wizra is too. i can’t risk alienating either of them.

between a rock and a hard place is no place for me.

the night comes and goes. as we got ready to leave camp, wizra and liane went into the woods to have a chat.

wizra returned grumpy, but i’ve come to recognize that as her default.

liane tells me wizra asked about their secret, but liane says they didn’t tell her anything. zatari asks liane what went on, liane deflected in a suggestive way, and my quarterstaff gave liane a rather satisfying thwack on the back.

liane calls me “mother” — which would be flattering if i wasn’t too young and beautiful.

some chaos ensues. can’t really make heads or tails out of it, but i know for a fact trinog casts “detect thoughts” on a blushing wizra, liane and tala speculate on why wizra is red in the face, and it ends with wizra leaving in a flurry

zatari’s worried — about wizra’s parents, about oliver, and about liane.

we should really get a move on towards nicodranas.

and yet, the show must go on. we ate, then we planned the day’s errands. the group’s itinerary shifted, so we adapted accordingly.

zatari and i were in charge of the ship sale. we decided to get rid of the boat sooner, rather than later. (several of us were pleased to hear we’d stay on land for the foreseeable future)

hans took the initiative to scout out horses and carts for the next leg of our journey. wizra accompanied him.

alno, tala, and liane (oh no) ended up going with each other, but i’m not exactly certain what for…in any case, i’m glad alno is there to hopefully keep an eye on the other two. wouldn’t want tala to be coerced into something unfavorable.

trinog decided to stay behind at the tavern, to translate the content of some book and identify some ring zatari got, assumably from the (late) voskiir’s quarters. dillyu stayed behind too.

here’s to hoping the rest of the day goes smoothly.

long story short, there are two things i can be sure of with this person:

1) their hair is a pretty color — white with pink highlights; told them so myself

and

2) they know far more than they let on, and that is concerning.

they know wizra’s name because they overheard it — while on the Moonbeam. because they had disguised themselves…as a zhelezo…and got onto the Moonbeam.

they’re not zhelezo, that i can tell you for certain. what i can also tell you is that most of the party are uneasy — with some acting more aggressive about it than others (that’s you, wizra steelgrace)
