“What’s gonna be your plan to fix this, ‘Luna’?” A very confused and angry Luna trapped inside Ambar’s body asks the real Ambar in the tiny brunette’s body as they walk towards the entrance of Blake. ‘Ambar’ rolls her eyes and continues to walk down the main pathway. “We’ll get there. You know I hate this just as much as you do, right?“ Luna winces at Ambar. Both of them mentally prepare, memorizing which classes and assignments. They needed to act totally normal for the day, or at least until they could get everything back to normal. It was going to be a big challenge for the both of them, as they are completely different personalities. But who knows, it could be fun for them?
Once they both walk through the doors of Blake, the bell rings right on cue. The brunette turns to face the blonde girl to check everything one last time. “You remember all of your classes and activities for the day right?” The blue-girl nods having understood everything. “And the test for bio can be made up for, so it doesn’t matter if you don’t know anything, just try your best, alright?” Blonde nods taking a deep breath. “You remember all of mine, right?” The green-eyed girl nods, checking behind her to see how many people are left in the hall rushing to class. “Yeah I got everything, don’t worry,” The girl still doesn’t look convinced but ignores it anyway. As she begins to walk away slowly, she turns to face the brunette once more. “Remember what Juliana said, you have until sunset to fix all of this otherwise I’m you forever,” Ambar shudders at the thought of it and quickly shakes her head out of it. “I’m on it, there’s no way I’m going to let that happen.” They face away and walk opposite directions to get to their classes, hoping their secret doesn’t get exposed.
1 hour earlier at the Roller: Luna
“It’s gotta be here somewhere,” I mumble to myself as I rummaged through my locker. I needed to be at school in an hour and I couldn’t find my flash drive with my history paper in it. I shake out the small pouches from inside and pencils and hair ties fall onto the floor. I groan in annoyance when it’s not there and I still have to pick everything back up. When I give up, I slump into the beach and sigh heavily. This is such a nightmare. I thought. I really needed to print it out and turn it in today. I’ll just turn it in later and hope the teacher will allow it and understand. When I pick everything up and tuck it away again, my skates accidentally roll out of the locker and crash into the floor with a thud. And somehow the memory stick flies out from one of them, hitting my shoes. I roll my eyes at myself and pick it up and stuff it into the front pocket of my backpack. I put my skates back in and shut the door closed. As I’m about to walk out, I hear the main door being opened. “Hello?” someone calls out. It’s Juliana. No one knows I’m here though. I only got in because I know where Simon hides the second key. But I only used it to retrieve my memory stick. And Juliana has strict rules on non-staff members being here anytime during closed hours. If she finds me here I’m so screwed. But now I’m wondering why she’s calling out if anyone’s here when there’s the rule. I can hear the sound of her shoes hitting the floor and becoming louder the more she comes near. There’s nowhere really to hide now. I just tick myself in deep into the corner of the locker wall and pray that she doesn’t look behind it. It’s silent for a few beats. But then I hear the clack of her feet fade out and I release my breath. Now I just have to find a way out of here. I sneak out carefully from behind the lockers and step softly across the floor. That is until I see something that I wasn’t even really sure I was seeing correctly. From the corner of my eye, I see Juliana somehow transform her cane into a shorter stick. Like a wand, She looks around once more before reciting a few words and waving it around. And the rink transforms into an entire lab. No. It can’t be. Magic? But before my brain could process it even further, the entrance door sounds again and multiple people pour in and cross into the rink. Ámbar, Gaston, Ramiro, Nina, Matteo, and Simon? All of my friends? I realize I’m still standing in the middle of the locker room, so I quickly duck behind the counter and observe, or rather hear what they are doing. She hears the sounds of stools scraping the floor as they sit in the tables. “Alright, welcome back happy Monday, whatever all of that,” Juliana begins her lecture. “Since we had too many problems with the animal transformation spell last week,” she hears her pause. It’s silent for a few seconds before she hears Gaston speak. “I don’t get it, Matteo loved being a tiger. He already thinks of himself as one anyways,” I can only imagine Matteo smirking at Gaston’s remark which makes me roll my eyes. “It’s true, it wasn’t that bad,” Matteo says. “See I told you!” “Okay, moving on from that,” Juliana starts back up again. “We’re moving onto the Body Switching Spell. Like everything else, this one can be very dangerous if used senselessly. Involving humans, it can involve permanence as well. So let me demonstrate to you, what it exactly is.” What the fuck is happening? I thought. I really wanna see what in the world this actually is. I crawl out from under and peak my head out the tiniest bit. Thankfully they are all facing away from me, but it’s still risky for me to be exposed. I rest my eyes on them as Juliana pulls Ramiro from out of his seat. “This is how it works. Ready?” she asks Ramiro. He nods his head and kind of stretches his neck a bit. And then the sorcery begins, making hand gestures toward the two of them. “Cambia Corporum, Meum Corpora, Sua Nominavi” she claps her hands together and ghostly figures of Juliana and Ramiro emerge out of their bodies and into the air, quickly making a switch into the other person’s body. My jaw drops nearly to the floor, I had to cover it. I couldn’t tell if my eyes were deceiving me or not. Had they really just switched bodies? With magic? It’s real? And none of them have told me??? Juliana, or really Ramiro, is looking down at themselves, roaming her body with disbelief. Nina, from what I can tell, looks stunned at the transformation. And then Matteo and Gaston are giggling like little kids at their friend as a woman. “Can we switch back now? This feels weird,” ‘Ramiro’ says embarrassed. 'Juliana’ huffs and shakes their head. “Not yet, everyone has to understand it in full context first before learning how to switch. Ambar, Simon. You go next.” They both stand up and Juliana orders Ambar to conduct the spell. There are so many emotions running through my veins, I have no idea where to begin with myself. I’m weirded out and stunned and in disbelief. But mostly angry. Angry that they would keep this entire thing a secret from me. They all know how much I adored the tales of magic when I was little, and they made me keep thinking it was only fables. They never told me it was real. That’s what hurt the most. Before I know it, my anger somehow pulls me to my feet and I storm over into their “lair”. Juliana’s eyes bulge out of her sockets the second she sees me. “What the hell is all of this?” I bark. Everyone turns at me frightened. “-sua nominavi!” Ambar completes the spell, right as we are standing directly in front of each other. “Her face is stunned but not for long as I feel myself being pushed out of my own self. And before I know it, my locks are now blonde and I’m wearing different rings on my fingers. Holy cow. I’m Ambar. Everyone single person’s jaw was dropped to the floor as they stared at us in utter disbelief. Nina and Simon covered their mouths and 'Juliana’ rubbed their temples muttering indistinguishable words to their self. "What the fuck just happened?” I hear myself say to them. Hearing my words coming from Ambar’s voice made me jump and have a mini heart attack. This is seriously not what I was expecting from today. “Someone please explain to me what’s going on?” Juliana huffs, trying to recollect their self. “Luna, you weren’t supposed to find out about any of this and I know it’s confusing but we can’t explain to you everything yet. For now, we just have to switch you back,” Juliana explains. 'Ambar’ who now seems to be in my body rolls her eyes. It’s weird seeing how I look myself in person now. “Okay, well switch us back please,” she whines. “Oh no, you’re the one who has to figure that out. You got yourself into the mess in the first place, you fix it,” “And what about me? None of this is my fault!” I cry out. “This is a consequence for Ambar, Luna. I know it’s not your fault, and I’m sorry. But until she figures it out, think of it as a bonding experience. Walking in each other’s footsteps.” I really can’t believe what she was making us do. Ambar needed to fix this fast. Being suddenly tied into this situation, I totally forgot that we have school in 15 minutes, and I react in panic. “We have school in 15 minutes!” I shout. Ambar widens her eyes and covers them with her forearm. “Juliana, Help!” she begs. 'Juliana only shrugs their shoulders. “Figure it out, girls. Get to school. Everyone, please,” “And what about me?” 'Ramiro’ asks with a strain in their voice. This makes Juliana ponder for a second before pulling him with her. “Fine, we’ll switch back, after they leave. And you can’t tell them the spell, they have to learn on their own.” Ambar and I both show annoyed looks on our faces before walking out together. Ambar pulls me to the side to hide so we can see the spell ourselves. However, of course, Juliana searches everywhere and has no trouble finding us. “Go,” she demands. We sigh and stand up walking on our way to school. This should be an interesting day.
Lunch at Blake: Luna
So far I’ve had to get through three of Ambar’s stupidly hard classes. I had no idea the girl was so damn book smart. Her English and Psychology classes weren’t as bad as I thought, just notes. Which I did very neatly so she will have to thank me for that later. I totally got tongue-tied when it came time for the Bio quiz. It literally felt like I was reading an alien language. But luckily it can be made up like she said so I randomly filled out every answer and finished early and played with my phone. All day people have been giving me suspicious looks. They must’ve thought I’d been acting “Not myself” which is technically true. But thankfully I never got asked about it. My cover hasn’t been blown yet and I can only hope Ambar pulls through with the spell soon. Because I cannot handle trying to act dead inside anymore all of the time anymore. We’d agreed to meet up for lunch this time, a true rarity. But with us not being ourselves, it was completely necessary. I sit at an empty table with my food and people keep giving me weird looks. Must be “Ambar’ is by herself today. I made her text Jazmin and Delfi to avoid approaching me because they know her better than anyone and would catch onto something quickly. So I sit and wait for her to come over to the table, patiently playing with my phone once more. Nina texts me to see how I’m doing with everything. I can tell she feels bad about everything, but It’s been too much for today, I’ll have to text her back later. Out of the corner of my eye, I see "me” walking casually into the courtyard looking for where I am. I’m about to wave when Matteo stops her in her tracks and begins conversating with her. I’m too far away to hear any of the dialogue so I watch as their facial expressions change. And let me tell you, Ambar does not look happy. From the looks of it, she looks like she’s about to explode into flames and he looks mildly intimidated. She storms away and starts walking powerfully towards me. She sits down at the table angrily and I don’t say a word.
Lunch at Blake: Ámbar
“You failed my quiz!” I stormed over 'Ámbar’ that looked shocked. “My perfect record.” “I didn’t-” She started. I knew she wasn’t that good, she failed on purpose clearly. “You want revenge for your friends? Well, okay. But not on me.” I thrilled and soon I felt someone behind me. “What Ámbar did now?” Jim asked looking down at 'Ámbar’. “Failed my quiz,” I announced trying to ignore the way both Jim and Yam were looking judiciously to my body. “I didn’t do it!” Luna defended, I couldn’t keep talking to her talking from my body, I feel dizzy. When Nina came closer, Luna immediately got up and nearly ran. “Luna?” Nina called, it wasn’t to me but I acted along, waving to her. “What happened?” “Ámbar failed Luna’s quiz,” Jim explained and turned to me. “We believe in you. She would totally do it.” I felt offended, Jim wasn’t talking about that Ámbar, she can’t talk about me like that. “No, I wouldn’t!” I scoffed to Jim who tilted her head, Nina shook nervously on my side. Why is she so nervous? I’m the one doomed to this tiny body. Luna is so short, no wonder why she’s clumsy. “We know that, Luna.” Yam giggled. “It’s about Ámbar.” She and Jim burst into laughter, Nina sighed relieved and I faked a laugh facepalming myself. “Oh yeah…” I hissed trying to remember anything. “Ámbar would…” Talking about myself in the third person has been the hardest thing about being Luna. Well, that and being bubbly happy, nice. This is the reason why you should never be reachable to people, they expected to be nice, it’s really exhausting. “Nina, we need to go to the library.” The girls watched me blankly. Maybe I was a bit sudden. “The book to the drama class, right?” Thankfully, Nina gets what I wanted. Spending the day with Nina was annoying because she’s so shy and afraid of the world, but also it was easier than I imagined it would be, she’s smart and a good friend, never left me my side and can get what I mean without big explanations which I appreciate. “See you at Jam&Roller.” We walked in silence. Nina was texting Gastón to get Matteo and Ramiro to the library so we could search how to undo the spell since the only fact we know about it for sure is if we don’t switch back to our bodies before sunset, I’m trapped in Luna’s body forever. Which is not gonna happen. Okay? No. Not ever. I can’t live like this. And that’s all Nina and Simón’s fault. If they knew how to keep a secret, Luna wouldn’t show up and I would’ve my body. Now not only she has my body but she knows about the magic. “That’s your fault.” It slipped through my lips.“What?” Nina gaped eyeing me. “You and Simón’s. It would be just a normal day if Lunita didn’t show up.” “Ámbar.” “Now a non-magic human knows about magic.” “I’m sorry.” She confessed, her voice low. “It was hard to keep lying to Luna. She doesn’t deserve to be lied to.” “We are all danger…” “Luna won’t tell anything!” “You don’t know this.” “I know Luna.” “You better because you exposed…” “I didn’t. She discovered it.” Nina agonized seeming worried. “I don’t know how she knew and she’s not speaking to me…” This whole day with Nina might make me somehow grows soft for her because I couldn’t ignore the pain she was showing. She was troubled by her friendship, I can’t relate to her, there’s no one that I feel bad for lying about the magic but the look on her face annoys even more than when she couldn’t solve that problem in math. “37.” I spoiled and she tilted her head confused. “The math problem you couldn’t solve. It’s 37.” I pushed the library door unable to stay there. Luna’s body is definitely getting to me, it needs to stop. The boys were already waiting although only Gastón was searching in a book, the other two had their eyes glued to their phones. “Anything?” “Not yet,” Gastón answered not looking at a spellbook until Nina arrived. Matteo watched me puzzled, I rolled my eyes and found Ramiro also watching me. “Ramiro,” I smirked. “Why don’t you tell how to undo that?” Ramiro just shook his head with fear, I narrowed my eyes. “What did Juliana threat you with? Because I swear whatever she said will be a childish joke compared to what I’m planning.” Ramiro burst in laughter and I took a step near, Matteo got me by the waist. “It doesn’t suit Luna,” Matteo warned. “It’s just cute.” “It must be a mess for you, right? Your ex is in your crush body.” Ramiro retorted, I screamed making him calmly turn his back and walk away. “I will destroy him.” “No, you will go to History class now.” Matteo babbled clearly uncomfortable letting me free. “But we didn’t search anything,” I said tired of everything. “We have class, the boys will stay,” Nina told me getting up from Gastón’s side. “Until sunset.” I hissed closing my eyes and following Nina. Several Hours Later at Jam & Roller: Ámbar
“15 minutes to the sunset,” Matteo warned looking to his phone. “Have you found it?” Luna asked for the thousandth time, she mirrored my concern, every second the chance of switching back was fading away. Simón took my hand squeezing it, for a moment it made me felt better, that moment only lasted until I eyed our hands and see a tiny hand with each nail painted a different color. “It’ll be okay.” Simón tried to make me calmer, it didn’t help at all.“Of course, it’ll be okay for you. You don’t mind if I stay in her body.” I barked making him frown. “You might even like it, while she will be with my body. I’ll be the loser on this, trapped in this tiny clumsy body.” “Hey, like being tall was wonderful.” Luna retorted, she clearly didn’t take opinions well. “At least, I know how to walk straight and I can reach every shelf of my room,” I replied raising my eyebrows and smirking. “But I can skate better.” She stated without realizing it, once she noticed her hands were on her mouth. I should be offended or mad but I’m too shocked, as well as the rest of the people in the room. “Was it in there the whole time?” “I don’t know where this came from.” Luna yelped. I can’t even be annoyed at her, I’m a nerve wreck, although I won’t forget this phrase. “Opa Opa.” Juliana chuckled coming in the closed rink. “I think it went too far already. Did you get how is like to walk in each other’s shoes now?” Not some stupid lesson. “Yeah, I learned a lot about Ámbar,” Luna answered simply, all eyes turned to me. What did I learn today? Being sweet is exhausting, it needs will so Luna is really determinate to be able of doing it every day and I wouldn’t tell them that. I was ready to make something up. “This has all been a pain, now we want to switch back our brains,” Gastón yelled suddenly, the whole scene him and Nina were sitting in a corner with an old book. “It’s the counterspell.” Nina elaborated and as I heard it, I got my wand. “This has all been a pain, now we want to switch back our brains.” And again some force pushes me out of my body, pulling me to another place soon. End of the spell
The two girls are now back in their own bodies, fortunately before needing to face the consequences of that mistake forever. Luna fell on her knees without balance once she was back to herself taking Simón with her, Matteo runs to them. “The first thing you needed to do when you’re back is showing your love for the floor, chica delivery?” Matteo mocks pulling her up, but Luna still feeling betrayed and just looks away. Simón sits on the ground and Ámbar walks to get him up. “No.” Juliana interrupts. “Matteo, help him.” She challenges, Matteo stays still. “Do you need a day as Simón?” Hearing that, Matteo reaches for Simón and pulled him to his feet. “No, I’m fine with the guitarist.” “Now a hug!” Ramiro yells making everyone laugh, their laughter isn’t exactly of the joke but relief, no one wanted to deal with Ámbar and Luna switch forever. “Gastón and Nina, you’ve got a point for discovering the counterspell.” Juliana voices. “For you girls, I hope you learned a lot from this day.” Both girls nods, they are exhausted. “Luna, it has been a hard day for you but we need to talk about the magic.” Even if Luna is feeling bad and tired, the chance of getting an explanation is better than not knowing anything at all, she can’t let it pass. “Can’t we erase her mind? I’m willing to try it.” Ámbar offers after some quiet minutes, Simón hugs her taking her to the other side to speak with her. “It’s okay. What I need to know?” Luna says ignoring it. She can try to understand her friends. “The magic world is a secret. It’s been threatened for thousand years and spoiling its existence would be harmful. You have to be careful not mess with the balance of things. Because everything is not what it seems…”
