Song Review: Wolf! feat. Scott Metzger - “Ratso”
The spirit of Link Wray lives in Wolf!
The instrumental trio - the exclamation point is part of its name - features guitarist Scott Metzger with bassist Jon Shaw and drummer Taylor Floreth. “Ratso,” the lead single from their forthcoming (Oct. 28) Adult Entertainment EP, is like surf-rocking into a tie-dyed, Hendrixian wave of color.
“It’s about three dudes in a room making music in real time that just straight up feels good; you get it the first time you hear it,” Metzger, who also plays with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, said of Wolf!
“I think we all need a little of that these days.”
He may be right. At just 2:26, “Ratso” leaves the listener hungry for more.

Song Review: Scott Metzger - “The Dark Triad”
Presumably named for the repeated triplicate that serves as its baseline, and not the psychological theory of the same name, “The Dark Triad” finds Scott Metzger “trying to capture a mood not unlike some of the Tim Burton claymation films.”
In that regard, the instrumental stand-alone - a leftover from the sessions that produced 2022’s Too Close to Reason - is a success. Yet, as Metzger splays acoustic-guitar over the titular rhythm, the instrumental becomes repetitive and suffers for lack of imagaination.
There’s a kernel in “The Dark Triad.” It just failed to pop.
