Fangirling - It's a Sport. Personal, long rant
So I've been aware of this for a while, in that I suck at every sport ever.
This includes fangirling.
Fangirling is mostly a mental sport. Dedicating yourself to creating AUs, memorizing others, headcanons, creating art and stories and music, etc. All of which require dedication. ^---- There's the rub. Because I end up throwing myself into fandoms really hard, but I don't end up MAKING anything. But that's okay. Because I dedicate to absorbing other people's. (I'm a leech.)
Except usually, I have one fandom, and it takes over everything.
So I was reading and I ran across part of the saying, "If wishes were horses then beggars would ride."
And it struck me how would actually be even worse for the beggars in most cases.
Because they'd have a wish and then it would turn into a horse - cool, I got a horse! And I can ride it now! I wish I knew how to ride a horse -- oh look, another one. That I still can't ride because I don't know how?
But let's say they did learn how to ride horses then. If they're beggars, they probably don't have a lot of extra income for maintaining a horse, for feeding or cleaning or housing. And if they get emotionally invested in their new equestrienne, then they're likely going to wish they had a means of feeding it - and a new horse shows up instead. Now they have TWO horses to try to take care of. And each time they have a wish, it just results in more horses to take care of and ultimately disappoint.
So maybe they decide to sell their horses, or at least some of the ones they can't take care of. But selling a horse is not the easiest thing to do. You can't do like Jack and go into town and trade a horse for magic beans. The casual person won't usually buy a horse in an urban setting, which is where most beggars reside. And so after the fourth day or so of not having anyone buy their multiple horses, the poor soul will likely break down and say, "I wish someone would buy some of these horses!"
And then there's more horses to take care of, and still no one to buy them.
