I haven't touched Wolf's Bane in quite a while, and I think it might be time to completely gut the story and characters and start from scratch.

My biggest problem with it is simply not knowing what I want to do with it. Like, what's the point of the story? What do I want out of it? The Cryptids, Hen House, Buck Bugle, Hammer & Fisster, Hitchhikers From Hell-I know what I want from these stories and what my goals are with them. But Wolf's Bane is the only one that has no real story or development to it, and it's been like that for two years now. It's very bare bones.

None of my stories have elaborate plotlines; they're all character driven, and that's what I like. Wolf's Bane needs a basic plot to drive the character development, and that's something I gotta work on. And I think the characters I have, which I've been trying to remold over and over again, simply don't work anymore.

idk I'm just sharing my writing thoughts here 🤷It's just frustrating because I love werewolves, and I want a werewolf story, but the one I currently have needs a lot of work.

The first story I'm gonna redo is Wolf's Bane I think. I still want to do a story featuring werewolves, but I want to change the characters and story (again).

Lately I've been watching Trailer Park Boys and that's been giving me ideas. Plus, I've been walking around my neighborhood a lot lately and taking in the state of it (living in a mobile home neighborhood) and I guess that's been influencing this new idea brewing in my head.

I think I want to make Wolf's Bane more of a horror comedy that's got stoner vibes and chaos, but also has drama and heart to it, if that makes sense? idk.

I'm gonna start taking notes, remake the pinterest board, and do some character designs to get stuff going. Let's see where it takes me.

Summer camp is a traditional teenage rite of passage, but when you add supernatural powers to the typically high dosage of adolescent hormones, you get an even more combustible mix. Add in a strange magic-warded cabin in the woods and a local history rife with curses and macabre legends, and it becomes clear this was a really, really bad place to build a camp for teenage supernaturals.

For Kate and Logan Danvers, sixteen-year-old twins of the werewolf Alpha, nothing could ruin a summer faster than the words “supernatural teen leadership conference”. They expected a boring week of earnest political discussions and team-building exercises. Instead, they got a crash-course in real-life leadership, when the camp imploded and the twins and their new friends fled into the West Virginia forest.

Now the group has taken refuge in a magically warded cabin only to discover that they might have been safer taking their chances with the demon outside. Trapped in a dark witch’s sanctuary, surrounded by hellhounds, the twins will need to hone their leadership and team-building skills fast. It might not be the way Kate and Logan expected to spend their week, but it will certainly be a summer camp to remember.

These are the only two books in the Otherworld series that were completely new to me, rather than rereads, and I’d say that they’re comfortably middle-of-the-pack (pun not intended) in terms of quality. They're focused on some of the ‘next generation’ of characters from the initial series, Kate and Logan, and it’s fascinating to see how they ‘grew up’ in between instalments. I usually love books where the author focuses in on a couple of minor characters and fleshes them out a bit, and these weren’t really an exception.

I think my biggest problem with these books was honestly that they were too short; they had a very ambitious story to tell and very few of the things that got brought up felt properly paid off by the end. I especially wasn’t a fan of the twist-within-a-twist reveal of the duology’s main antagonist, because it felt like a bit of a cheap trick to have her be revealed as the big bad not once but twice, and I know that this author can do better than that.
