🍂 Fall Bookish Bingo 🍂

I've just recently dragged myself out of a two-month reading slump, and I thought what better way to celebrate overcoming my hurdle than creating something to make me excited about reading again! Pair that with my favorite season coming up, and this fall bookish bingo was created!

Please feel free to use it for yourself if it resonates with you! I would love to hear about what books you choose for the prompts! These prompts are completely up to your own interpretation, of course. If you feel stuck on any of them, do feel free to leave a comment, and I'll see if I can think of anything to suggest!

So, what is the time frame for this bookish bingo? That's completely up to you and when your time-frame of fall is. Personally, I'll be using this starting September 1st and going through the end of October, but you can absolutely go longer than that!

I have filled the entire @batmanisagatewaydrug bingo board!

I had such a great time with this. I ended up reading 3x as much as last year, because in the process of finding books for each square, I ended up with so many more books on my list to read (also Sayaka Murata <3)

Hi! I hadn't planned on one, but since you asked... sure! Same thing happened last year. I wasn't planning to do one, and then someone asked. I figure if one person asks, perhaps many others are silently interested, too.

2025 Beat the Backlist Challenge

The 2025 reading challenge prompts are now available!

So, i ended up deciding to do several different reading challenges... Just cause.

One of those is the beat the backlist 2025 challenge. Which I just finished a book for.

part 4 and possibly my last roundup for @batmanisagatewaydrug ‘s book bingo this year…did not get the whole board but i did get bingo 4 times!

published in the aughts: signs preceding the end of the world by yuri herrera. what an incredible slim little book that packs a punch. highly allegorical and allusive and the kind of story that rewards the attentive reader.

essays: uncanny valley girls by zefyr lisowski. a collection of essays grafting horror films & personal commentary. generally very good and interesting analysis of the horror genre. the essay midway through about the death of the author’s sister is, whew, incredible.

short story collection: how high we go in the dark by sequoia nagamatsu. cheating a little bit because this technically (technically technically) a novel, but really, it’s a collection of short stories set in the same universe. very thoughtful and contemplative, melancholy, somewhat bitterly hopeful.

recipe: lasagna soup. found on instagram. made with my roommates. delicious. (it’s basically taking lasagna ingredients and putting them in a pan with broth instead of cooking in the oven).

to turn this into a whole reading wrap up, aside from bingo i read (as of rn) 72 books this year which is like 30 more than last year, read way more nonfiction, got into comics somehow, and (!!!) finished my goal of reading every ursula le guin novel! so all in all a pretty awesome year in books.

much to ponder. & i will def do bingo again next year!

it's once again time for a Trans Rights Readathon! this year it's march 17th-31st

The Trans Rights Readathon is an annual call to action to readers and book lovers in support of Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV) on March 31st. We are calling on the reader community to read and uplift books written by and/or featuring trans, nonbinary, 2Spirit, and gender-nonconforming authors and characters. apart from reading you can participate by

donating to an organisation who push for trans rights (especially small local groups!) or individual fundraisers to support a local trans/genderqueer person

amplifying trans & genderqueer voices by posting about which books by trans & genderqueer authors you read and leaving reviews (and positive comments on publisher's posts about releases)

buying your books by trans & genderqueer authors from queer indie bookshops or directly from the authors
